Welcome to Performing Arts for 2025

The Performing Arts Centre is always a busy place with the sounds of music, drama, dance and production rehearsals. Students are always happy and engaged in what they are doing – it is an enjoyable place to be. Thank you to our committed staff who take time during lunch and after school to run rehearsals.

It is an exciting year ahead and we look forward to the enthusiasm and talent of our leaders. Congratulations to the leaders who will be presented with their badges at the awards ceremony.

Rehearsals have commenced for the following performance groups.

  • Senior Concert Band
  • Choir
  • Year 8 Concert Band
  • Stage Band
  • Dance Extension
  • Drama Club
  • Production – Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
  • VSSS

We look forward to an active and enjoyable year that provides our Performing Arts students with opportunities to perform and develop skills in their chosen area.

Year 7 Music

Music lessons for all Year 7 students commenced during Week 6 of this term. Students will be aware that their lessons appear on Compass week to week and that they should also be bringing back their hire forms, if necessary. We are delighted that so many Year 7’s have put up their hands to learn an instrument this year, it’s a great indicator that exciting times are ahead in Performing Arts.

If there are any students who still wish to learn an instrument, please head over the Music Department at any stage and talk to one of the friendly music staff.

Dance Extension Program

Dance Extension is a lunchtime program open to all students in Years 7-12 who enjoy dancing, want to improve their skills and just have fun.  It’s open to students of all abilities, whether you’ve been dancing since you were 3 or never danced before, everyone is welcome to join our dance community.

Students in Dance Extension will have the opportunity to perform a routine that is choreographed by our Dance Captains at the Semester 1 Dance Showcase on 14May.  It’s not too late to join. Come along on Wednesdays at lunchtime to the Dance room.

Top Class Dance and Broadway Jazz Excursion

On 25 February our VCE and VET dancers went to the city on a dance excursion.  In the morning, we watched the Top Class - Dance performances at the Melbourne Recital Centre.  Top Class - Dance showcases VCE and VET dance students who achieved a high level of excellence in their 2024 performance exams.  Watching these students perform was great inspiration for our own skills-based solos that we are currently working on, also provided us with ideas for our own composition solos that we will work on in Semester 2.

In the afternoon, we went to the Ministry of Dance.  We were fortunate enough to get a tour of the different dance studios, classrooms and costume room.  We also got an insight into the various programs offered including the high school and tertiary programs.  We then got to participate in a Broadway Jazz workshop with Courtney Murray.  Courtney completed her dance training at the Ministry of Dance and has had numerous professional contracts.  She is currently performing in Moulin Rouge in Germany.  Courtney taught us some of the choreography from Moulin Rouge which was fun and very exciting.

Overall, the day inspired us all, taught us new skills, gave us ideas for our own dance works and opened our eyes to many new opportunities that exist in dance.
