Sports Report

Swimming Sports - Will P

Patterson River Secondary College Swimming Sports was an exciting school event that was compulsory for Year 7s & 8s, whilst Year 9 through 12 were exclusively competitors only. The event was hosted at Pines Swimming Pool on Monday 17 February.

As part of an assessment task, the Year 12 VCE VM hosted a wide range of events and activities for the rest of the school to enjoy. Blake and I coordinated a basketball tournament with a bracket that played 30 teams, 3v3 and surprisingly it all went well considering some competitors from certain trios had to swim as well as playing basketball. To counteract this, we would postpone teams who had missing players to play at the end of the same round. There were a wide range of other events on the day including a waterslide, pool volleyball and many other exciting activities. Overall Swimming Sports was a great event to attend and the VCE VM students were able to use a variety of interpersonal skills throughout the day.

Swimming Sports - Vicky G

Monday 17 February VCE VM students ran activities for the Swimming Carnival. The games and activities consisted of: waterslide, basketball, prize wheel, raffle, minor games, face painting, Zooper Doopers, sunscreen station, pool volleyball and more.

My group ran the prize wheel and raffle and from the moment students started settling in we had a line right up until we ran out of prizes. This was a lot of fun, especially when people I knew and are friends with, tried to get free prizes!

The purpose of VCE VM running these activities was to improve our communication skills, create a fun, safe environment and for everyone to be involved on the day. Also to engage and get to know other students in the College we probably wouldn’t see in the yard.

Throughout this event, we were getting assessed on a SAT, including our plan on how we were going to run our activity, where we were going to set up and everything we were going to need.

This day was so much fun that I wish I could do it again. The best part is I got to do it with my friends which made the day better.

Intermediate Girls Volleyball

On Tuesday 4 March two teams from the College competed in the Intermediate Girls Volleyball tournament at McClelland College. It was a busy day of competition for both teams.

The A team had impressive performances across their six games. They secured four victories against Elisabeth Murdoch College, Monterey Secondary College, Mt Erin Secondary College and Carrum Downs Secondary College. They showed great resilience in their match against Frankston Secondary College, pushing it to a third set and fell short in two close sets against McClelland College. Throughout the day the team’s communication, teamwork and positive energy on court were evident, with excellent volleyball skills displayed by all.

Meanwhile, the B team played five games, winning matches against Monterey Secondary College, Carrum Downs Secondary College and McClelland College. They were defeated by Elisabeth Murdoch College and Frankston but played with great determination in each match. Both teams represented our College with pride and did a fantastic job. Well done to all involved!

Carrum Coast Guard Fun Run

The Carrum Coast Guard Fun Run was an incredible chance for our students to showcase their school spirit while supporting a meaningful cause. With an impressive 59 participants representing Patterson River Secondary College in the 6km and 12km teams event, our school dominated the competition and took home the winning title!

A huge shoutout to Levi M for his outstanding performance, finishing 2nd overall in the 12km Male 16 and Under category with an impressive time of 53:00 minutes. In the 6km Male 16 and Under category Finn P finished 4th overall —our first student across the line! He was closely followed by John H and Hendrix F, who also delivered strong finishes. On the girls’ side, Rubie H secured 6th place in the Female 16 and Under category, with Saraya L and Audrey R hot on her heels.

A massive congratulations to all students, parents and staff who took part and cheered on our team. Your support and effort made this event a huge success!
