Year 5/6 Team Update

This term, our Year 5/6 students explored life in Feudal Japan through an engaging Inquiry unit. They investigated samurai and shoguns, religion and beliefs, everyday life, traditional arts and changes in Japanese society. It was a great opportunity for the students to develop inquiry questions, research a range of sources and use historical evidence to explain the significance of their chosen topic.

Sushi Train Excursion 

As part of the unit, students enjoyed an excursion to a Sushi Train restaurant. This experience helped students extend their learning from Feudal Japan to modern Japan and explore the historical concept of continuity and change. They considered how aspects of Japanese food, traditions and culture have been preserved over time while also adapting to life in contemporary society. We sincerely thank all the volunteers who joined us and helped make the excursion such a successful and enjoyable experience.

RWPS Feudal Japan Museum 

The unit culminated in an impressive Feudal Japan classroom museum. Students researched and created historical artefacts and displays, including samurai armour and weapons, Zen gardens, religious statues and artworks. Their attention to detail, depth of research and pride in their work was outstanding.

This week, students showcased their projects to their classmates and special guests – their Prep buddies! Our Year 5/6 students confidently acted as museum guides, explaining their artefacts, answering questions and enthusiastically shared their knowledge. The Prep students thoroughly enjoyed exploring the displays, making it a wonderful celebration of learning.

We are incredibly proud of the curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm demonstrated by our students throughout this unit.
