A Prayer for the Beginning of Lent
(Wednesday 18 February)
Dear Lord,
Holy and gracious God, as we prepare to step into this sacred season of Lent, we slow our pace and quiet our hearts before You.
Create in us a deeper hunger—not for comfort or distraction, but for truth, mercy, and Your abiding presence.
Strip away what clutters our souls, and gently show us what needs healing, what needs letting go, and what needs new life.
In these forty days, teach us to walk honestly, to repent without fear, to pray without pretense, to give without counting the cost, and to love more like Christ.
When the way feels hard, remind us that ashes are not the end of the story, and that every act of surrender opens space for resurrection hope.
Lead us through the wilderness with courage and trust, so that we may emerge renewed, ready to follow You more faithfully into the joy of Easter.
Amen.
