We have been notified of a few reports of headlice accross the JLA and SLA, and we seek your cooperation in checking your child’s hair this weekend. Please treat your child's hair if headlice or eggs are found.Â
At school, if we are to detect headlice, a parent or carer will be contacted collect the child from school for treatment. Once treated, children are welcome back to school from the day after treatment has commenced.Â
It has been noticed also that some students with longer hair are not tying their hair up, which can unfortunately support any transition of head lice between students.Â
Further Information:
Head lice do not transmit infectious diseases – they are transmitted by having head to head contact with someone who has head lice.Â
What can you do?
We seek your cooperation in checking your child’s hair and in those instances where head lice or eggs are found, treating your child’s hair. Please visit www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au and search for “head lice (nits)” for advice on finding, treating and preventing head lice.
Â
When can my child return to school?
Health regulations requires that where a child has head lice, that child should not return to school until the day after appropriate treatment has started. Please note, this refers only to those children who have live head lice and does not refer to head lice eggs. More information about these requirements can be found by searching for “school exclusion table” at www.health.vic.gov.au.
We are aware that head lice can be a sensitive issue and are committed to maintaining confidentiality in this area.
We are currently at an 85% completion from families for this action... just 15% more to go!Â
The 2026 Annual Permissions/Agreements have been published in Compass for you to action for each of your children. These permissions are only required once a year and will be valid for the whole school year.Â
We ask all families, if not already, to please complete these actions ASAP.Â
The annual permissions are found under the "Insights" section in your Compass app.
Our canteen lunch service will be running once again this year on Wednesdays - with a new, improved menu! Â Orders should be placed via the Flexischools App (instructions below) or website. See HERE for further information about the Fresh Food Fairy lunch service at Newtown PS.
