Messages from the Principal

Hello NPS Families!

Thank you for taking the time to read our final newsletter for the term. It's hard to comprehend that as the weeks have flown by since we started the year!

I'll start by congratulating our Year 3 and Year 5 students for having completed their 2026 NAPLAN assessments. We have a strong track record in NAPLAN, traditionally performing very well when compared to our Network and State School counterparts. I look forward to receiving our data when it comes through and sharing the amazing growth our students have and continue to make.

This week, I had the pleasure of attending the MLA Camp at Camp Burnside on Monday and Tuesday! Camp Burnside, located in Anglesea, is a great camp for our overnight stay and provides our students with a range of activities that seek to challenge them, which is always interesting to see. A huge thank you to Mr. O and Ms. P for all of their organisation, as well as our Parent Helpers in Ron and Ally, for attending and supporting.

Last week, our School Capatins and I headed up the hwy to attend the Young Leaders Association of Australia - 2026 Dream and Lead Conference. It was a great, fun-filled day full of leadership learning and empowerment! Our captains learnt what leadership is, although it takes many forms and faces, as well as how leading can look depending on the situation you are in. They give a great recap in their leadership report this edition ;)

Last week, also... we also had our 1st official School Council meeting for 2026.

School Council, for me, is a platform where a very dedicated group of people, made up of parents and school staff, look to work together to improve all key aspects of our school. The discussions we have are always centred around our students and school improvement, and I thoroughly enjoy that aspect of being a Principal! The closer we can work together with families, the greater success we have as a school, which then means, the greater success our students have!

During this meeting, we also announced and selected 2026 office bearer positions, and I am very pleased to welcome and congratulate Mrs. Adelaide Smith as our President for this year. Adelaide has two children here at NPS, Louis in Year 3 and Sylvie in Prep. A list of our 2026 School Council Constituting Order is below. I would encourage all families to know just who our SC are and to introduce yourselves when you can.

Our Staff - Get to know the people...

Aimee Smith - Visual Arts Teacher

Aimee has been at Newtown Primary School since 2013 and in that time has taught every year level from Prep to Grade 6. This year, Aimee is teaching Visual Arts, which she is loving. Her favourite part about teaching Art is getting to work with every single student in our school and seeing their incredible ideas, colourful creations, and big imaginations shine!

Outside of school, Aimee lives on a few acres around 20 minutes from Newtown with her husband Barnaby, son Alby and much loved, almost 17 year old golden retriever Wally. She loves going for family bike rides, days by the pool and reading a good book.
