A Prayer for Peace in the Middle East
Pope Leo has called for an end to the spiralling violence in the Middle East.
“Let us pray together that harmony may prevail in all conflicts throughout the world. Only peace, a gift of God, can heal the wounds between peoples,” he said.
Season of Lent
During the Season of Lent, we focus on raising money for Caritas Australia's Project Compassion. Donation boxes are in the Prayer Spaces in each Learning Community. The money raised will be sent to Caritas Australia at the end of Lent to support the wonderful work they do in Australia and around the world.
Over the next few weeks, we will feature the stories of people Project Compassion supports. This week, we focus on the story of Monoranjon from Bangladesh.
Monoranjon's story, Bangladesh
Monoranjon lives in a village in Bangladesh close to the sea, where floods and storms often damage his crops and his home. With support from Project Compassion, he learnt climate-resilient farming techniques and new ways to diversify his income, helping his family survive and build a safer, more sustainable future.
Monoranjon takes part in local groups that grow mangroves and raise awareness about their role in the climate crisis. He has learnt climate-resilient organic vegetable farming, how to grow salt tolerant vegetables, poultry and livestock rearing, and fish polyculture to increase the number of fish he can grow and sell. As a result of these great new skills and activities, his family's financial situation has improved and he can afford to send his children to school.
