St John's Art Show 22 October 2026

Welcome to another exciting term in the art room!

Oh, the things we are learning and creating!!

We cannot wait to show you all we have accomplished next term at our amazing Art Show.

This term has started strong with our 5/6 students taking inspiration from Wendy Binks to create some highly amusing and interesting chalk pastel emus. Our 3/4 students have been virtually visiting South Australia- the home of Coober Pedy Opals and Adelaide the ‘City of Churches’ to create the most breathtaking chalk pastel opals and stained glass windows. The 1/2 students have traveled back in time to learn about Sidney Nolan and explore his Ned Kelly series. They then brought Ned Kelly back with them and collaged him in their favourite places. They are now working on our creative sea creatures that will shine in our Glow Barrier Reef. The Prep students have been working hard on their collage skills. Their ice creams look delicious enough to eat!!

Recycled Materials

For this term to be successful we need some things to be brought in  from home.

 The 1/2 students will be making 3D sea creatures from recyclable materials. This means every student will need a clear plastic bottle with labels removed. 600m or 1.25l soft drink bottles would work best, but 2L rounded bottles would also work.

The 3/4 students will be making coral reefs from recycled materials, so please start collecting cardboard tubes, large sheets of cardboard, packing materials like honeycomb wrap, kraft paper, bubble wrap or foam pellets. We would also love donations of pool noodles or other everyday items the students could manipulate into under the sea art.
