Parent Teacher Conversations

Parent Student Teacher Conversations will be held at the end of Term 3 on Thursday, September 17th, from 3:30pm to 7:00pm, and Friday, September 18th, from 10:00am to 1:00pm for Morwell, Churchill, and University Campus.

There will be no scheduled classes on Friday, September 18th, and students are not required to attend.

Families will be notified when bookings can be made via Compass.

If you are unable to access Compass please contact your campus office for assistance.

First Aid

New Needle-Free Treatment Option for Anaphylaxis

Families of students with anaphylaxis may be interested to know that a new adrenaline treatment, neffy®, is now available in Australia.

Like an EpiPen®, neffy® contains adrenaline and is used to treat anaphylaxis. The key difference is that neffy® is a needle-free nasal spray, delivering the medication through the nose instead of an injection into the outer thigh.

What is the same?

Both EpiPen® and neffy®:

• Contain adrenaline to treat anaphylaxis.
• Should be administered immediately when symptoms of anaphylaxis occur.
• Require an ambulance to be called (000) after the medication has been given.
• Can be administered at school by trained staff in the event of an anaphylactic reaction.

What is different?

Students who currently use an EpiPen® do not need to make any changes unless advised by their GP or allergy specialist.

If your child's doctor prescribes neffy® instead of an EpiPen®, please notify Kurnai College's First Aid Coordinator, Kathleen Cooper, by emailing Kathleen.Cooper@education.vic.gov.au.

Parents and carers will also need to:

• Provide the prescribed neffy® device to the College; and
• Submit an updated ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis completed by their child's doctor.

Stymie

𝗦𝗧𝗬𝗠𝗜𝗘 – Empowering Students to #SaySomething

Launched in March 2021 across all Kurnai College campuses, Stymie is a powerful tool that empowers students to become upstanders—those who support their peers and speak up when something isn’t right.

🌐 Stymie allows students to make anonymous, encrypted online reports when they or someone they know is experiencing harm. These notifications are sent directly to authorised staff who respond in line with our wellbeing framework.

Completely confidential, students can include text, screenshots, or images to support their report.

Topics reported through Stymie include: bullying, self-harm, depression & anxiety, family violence, discrimination, suicide ideation, physical fights, sexual assault & illegal activity.

Stymie supports psychological safety by helping students find the courage and tools to 

#SaySomething—whether for themselves or on behalf of someone else.

Attendance

It can be tempting to stay warm at home — but regular school attendance remains just as important as ever. Each day of learning builds on the last, and frequent absences can make it harder for students to stay connected, confident, and on track with their studies.

We understand that winter illnesses can affect attendance, and we encourage families to seek medical advice when needed. However, for minor sniffles or cooler mornings, a warm jacket and a positive mindset can make all the difference. Let's work together to keep attendance strong and support every student’s success this term.

If your student is absent due to sickness (or any other reason) please record the absence on Kurnai College's absence hotline at (03) 5165 0600 - option 1.

Code Red Fire Danger

A reminder to all families that on days of Code Red in the West & South Gippsland Fire Zone, all campuses will be closed.

We ask families to be aware of this in preparation for when Summer returns.
