A message from Stage 3

Writing in Stage 3

We have the unique opportunity in Stage 3 to provide opportunities for students to tie together a variety of skills they have been mastering over the last 6 years of schooling. The work done in Kindergarten, Stage 1, and Stage 2 around spelling, reading and writing finally starts to look like the sophisticated texts that young people will be creating as part of high school, tertiary study or even in the workplace. It is an exciting time! Perhaps most exciting, as the E.M Forster quote suggests, is that young people through writing start to interrogate and reflect on their own thoughts and opinions about topics.

Inspired by the stimulus, Bright New World, students have been imagining and writing about what the future could look like. In particular they have been focusing on how big problems, like global warming and species extinction could be solved. Their writing is spotlighting animals and wild places that are under threat. Students are taking this knowledge and integrating it with techniques to inform and persuade their audience.
