 Welcome

Wawa, Wominjika.

Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurrunguri and Woiwurrung people of the Kulin nation.  We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community.  We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us.  We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.

Schoolgrounds

We are very fortunate to have Pip Cariss taking care of our school facilities and we receive numerous compliments on how wonderful our facilities look. This past week, Pip, supported by Mick Mercieca and our amazing volunteer grandparent, Lynne Franke, have been busy planting trees and ground cover to enhance the appearance of our school. Their work doesn’t go unappreciated.

Education Week

The Education Week celebrations at Old Orchard will be held in Week 6 (commencing Monday May 26th) with Open Evening on Thursday May 28th. We look forward to seeing many of our school families throughout the week as we celebrate the wonderful work of our students.

Year 5 Camp

Next week, our Year 5 students head off to Waratah Bay Beach camp for 3 days of fun, adventure and learning. School camps are an important part of our students’ primary school experience and we value and appreciate the commitment of staff and volunteer helpers whose commitment makes the camps possible, as well as acknowledging the support of our Old Orchard families.

Open Morning

This Saturday morning, we have a special Open Morning and Information Session for prospective Old Orchard families. This will be a great opportunity to hear from our current Prep teachers, as well as other staff members.

Bicycles & scooters in playground

Our students have been reminded from time to time that riding bikes / scooters in the playground is not permitted before school and until after 4.00pm after school. Additionally, the expectation is that students will be riding safely and responsibly, including wearing a helmet and that they will not allow other students to ride their bike/scooter. Please support us by reminding your child of these requirements.

Security gates

A reminder that our school gates are closed from 9.10am each morning until 3.15pm each afternoon. If you are arriving at school during these times for any reason, including attending school events or Friday assemblies, you must enter via the main gates on Koonung Road.

Please note that it is not possible for gates to be opened outside of these designated times.

These measures have been introduced in the interest of student safety, and we appreciate your cooperation in supporting our school's procedures.

Warm regards

Duncan
