Principal's Message

2026 School Theme - Coherence
Dear Westbreen PS Families,
Mother's Day Stall
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Mother's Day stall on Thursday. There was an amazing range of gifts for our students to select from. Special thanks to those who donated items to our stall and to all of our wonderful parents/carers who volunteered on the day. I hope everyone had a lovely day on Sunday celebrating their mothers, grandmas, nanas, aunties and any other special people in their lives! I heard lots of lovely stories from students who told me that they helped tidy up and do other chores at home to help out their mums!
School Start and Finish times
A reminder that Westbreen Primary School’s grounds are supervised by school staff from 8:45am until 3:30pm. Outside of these hours, school staff will not be available to supervise students and parents should not allow their children to attend Westbreen Primary School outside of these times. If families require supervision of their children outside of these times, you are encouraged to contact our OSHC provider TheirCare. For more information, please read our supervision policy here: WPS-Yard-Duty-and-Supervision-Policy-review-Oct-26.pdf
Interschool Sport
Congratulations to our year 5/6 students who participated in our first round of the winter season of interschool sports on Friday afternoon. This term, the students are competing in AFL, soccer and netball as well as participating in the YMCA sports program.
Community Playgroup
Our Community Playgroup has commenced for 2026! Playgroup will run every Tuesday in our school hall from 9:00am to 10:30am. Our playgroup is open to all families in the community — not just those currently attending Westbreen. It’s a great opportunity for children to play in a safe, fun environment while parents and carers connect with others in the area. There is no cost to attend, and no expectation to come every week — just drop in when you can! If you have friends or family who may be interested, please encourage them to get in touch via email at playgroup@westbreenps.vic.edu.au or by calling the school office on 03 9306 9481.
Pre-Service Teachers
This week we welcomed Caleb, Joshua, Katia and Baris from Victoria University who will be completing their teaching placements with us over the next few months. It is great for our school and staff to be able to share their expertise and mentorship with teachers coming into the profession and we also have the opportunity to learn from our pre-service teachers who are learning the latest in educational research at university.
School Improvement at Westbreen PS
As a school, we are on a continuous improvement journey, always seeking to gain better academic and wellbeing outcomes for all of our students. Professional learning is one way that we do this. Did you know that teachers and ES meet regularly to engage in professional learning?
This is achieved in a variety of ways including:
- internal professional learning, drawing on the extensive experience and expertise of our staff
- external presenters bringing their expert knowledge
- Department of Education sessions to learn about current initiatives
- individual coaching
- learning walks to observe classroom practice and provide feedback to staff.
How do we know that we are improving?
At Westbreen PS, we use a range of data so that we can monitor our progress. This includes student achievement data, student, staff and parent opinion surveys, NAPLAN and other formal assessment data as well as behaviour and wellbeing data. We utilise these data sets to look at both micro (individual students) and macro (cohort and whole school) data and trends. We identify our student's needs and put actions in place to meet these needs. Each term our School Improvement Team (SIT) meets to review our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) goals and targets to monitor our progress.
New Policies
Each month at school council, we review and update a range of school policies and then upload them to our school website so that all community members can access them.
This month, we reviewed our First Aid, Anaphylaxis, Asthma and Medication policies.
