LITURGY NEWS

Reconciliation

Yesterday, some of our Year 5 students had the opportunity to attend Reconciliaiton and Year 2 also had a visit with Fr Saji. Next Wednesday more of our Year 5 students will have the opportunity to attend Reconciliaiton and Year 1 will have a visit from one of our Parish Priests.

Fr Saji

Bishop Peter Murphy has appointed Fr Saji to be the Administrator of St Joseph's West Tamworth taking effect 1st September. Fr Clarence Canafe has been appointed as Assistant Priest for St Nicholas Parish. He will begin his role in September.

THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

The Assumption (August 15) refers to the Blessed Virgin Mary being assumed — body and soul — into heaven at the end of her earthly life. “Assumption” is different than “ascension” because one is passive (i.e. one is assumed) and the other is active (i.e. one ascends). It is by the power of God, Mary was assumed. Like all beliefs about Mary, they illuminate our most treasured beliefs about her Son. The Assumption illustrates to us the truth about Christ’s promise of eternal life and the resurrection of the faithful.

MINI VINNIES

Today, at first break, many primary students gathered in the seminar room for our Thursday's Mini Vinnies meeting. We have claimed a corner of the seminar room to begin our great works. The students have come up with some great ideas on how we can reach out across our community and put Vinnies Values into action. Two priority areas the students have ideintified and will begin planning for are 'People who are elderly' and 'People who are homeless' in our community. Students are working through the 'See, Think, Do' model of thinking to prioritise key areas.

What is Mini Vinnies?

Mini Vinnies empowers primary school students to become advocates within their school and local community by putting Vinnies Values into action. We will be meeting regularly to learn about social justice issues, develop leadership skills and engage with the local community.

FAMILY MASS

Our next Family Mass for this term will be held Sunday 31st August (Year 1 and Year 5) at St Nicholas Church at 9.30a.m.

We are strongly encouraging the families of all Year 1 and Year 5 students. It would be lovely to see as many families as possible attending. After mass our St Nicholas Parish have organised a 'Parish Picnic' at the Miniature Trains which everyone is welcome to attend (11am-2.30pm).

These Masses are an opportunity for our School community to come together with our Parish Community to celebrate and to share a ‘cuppa' and morning tea afterwards.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

The Sacrament of Confirmation will take place the weekend of 23rd/24th August. Candidates will be Confirmed by Bishop Peter Murphy.

Students are reminded that they are to wear their full winter uniform.

Sacrament of Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred by Bishop Peter Murphy in our St Nicholas Parish. A reminder that the Confirmation candidates are required to attend Reconciliation.  Reconciliation will take place Thursday 21st August beginning at 5.30pm at St Nicholas Church.
