Children’s Book Week / 16–23 August 2025

This year the theme is "BOOK AN ADVENTURE"

The Children's Book Council Of Australia celebrates 80 years of Children's Book Week this year, a marvellous milestone of connecting children to story. In the following weeks, we will have lots of fun discussing this theme and how it relates to our reading journey. I look forward to hearing some wonderful insights from the students.

"The library is not just full of books, but also opportunities."

Abbey 2016

This quote was submitted on a library leader application back in 2016.

Abbey explained that the library is not just book shelves laden with books. The library is full of ideas and adventures and opportunities to learn something new, to try something new, maybe to meet someone new.

BOOK WEEK - Parade - THURSDAY 21 August

It's approaching fast, Week 5 in fact.

We have been excitedly talking about our favourite characters in readiness for the parade.

The students have been reminded that if their character is in the movies they must also feature in a book either before or after the movie production.

Yr 4 - AUTHOR PEN PAL VISIT

Last Wednesday Yr 4 students were treated to a special visit by our author penpal,

Bec Nanayakkara. Bec who lives at Black Mountain, not too far from us, jumped at the opportunity to drop in and talk to us about our reading and writing goals. Bec asked us why we read and write and  was very impressed to hear that we have goals in each of these areas to help us stay on track.

Bec spoke to us about her books and we asked her about her author journey. Thankyou Bec for signing our books.

Thankyou for the visit Bec we look forward to more correspondence as the year progresses.

Bec's latest book "Grow Big, Little Seed" is shortlisted on the 2025 CBCA Book Of The Year Awards for New Illustrator - Sarah Capon.

PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE 2025

CONGRATULATIONS : 420 students have now completed the 2025 Premier's Reading Challenge. This number is 70% of the student population.

Let's keep it going St Nichs.

The Challenge is steadily drawing to a close for 2025.

End validation date is Friday, Sept 5.

If your child has been issued a note regarding the Challenge please respond accordingly by the due date.

"TECH FREE" FRIDAY

Every Friday we pack up the technology and enjoy chatting to each other, reading, playing games, colouring in and jigsaws. Does anyone have any jigsaws they would like to donate to the library please?

LIBRARY BAGS

Please note a LIBRARY BAG is the first item on your child's equipment list for the year.

Thank you for ensuring your child has a library bag. I have some spares and will issue these to students next week who have not yet presented with a bag.

LIBRARY BAGS MATTER...  Not just some of the time but all of the time.

No food or drink on my books.

Food and drink are for the chooks.

Library bags keep ‘em clean.

Books are cool don’t treat ‘em mean.

Bring your bag every time.

Fill it up and get in line.

Have it scanned and scoot on out.

LIBRARY BAGS

We all shout.
