Year 3/4 UR Strong Incursion
On Thursday 21st October, Year 3 & 4 students will be participating in the 'UR Strong Friendship Workshop' to support them with managing and maintaining their friendships and social connections.
Prep Legoland Excursion
Prep students will be visiting LEGOLAND on Wednesday 22nd October as part of their Design and Technology unit. They will have the opportunity to build a moving vehicle out of Lego and test it as well as exploring LEGOLAND.
Gecko's Deaf Basketball Visit
On the Thursday 30th October we are very lucky to have a member of the ‘Geckos’ (Australia’s Deaflympics Basketball team) visit our school.
Ashleigh Brandson (AJ) is the Vice captain of the Geckos and has kindly offered to come and share her story of playing Deaf Basketball and run some basketball clinics with Year 4, 5 & 6 students. We are excited to have AJ come and use Auslan to share her experiences of learning Auslan and playing Deaf Basketball.
The ‘Geckos’ are about to head over to Tokyo, Japan to compete in the 2025 Deaflympics. Braithyn Kerr (An Education Support Staff member at Somerville) is an Assistant Coach of the Geckos and will be heading to Japan with the team. The games run from the 15th to 26th November. We are very excited to hear how they go.
We would like to support the Gecko’s Deaflympic campaign and have decided to hold a ‘Green and Gold for the Geckos’ Day. Students are asked to wear a splash of Green and/or Gold along with their regular uniform as a show of support and make a ‘Gold coin donation’ to support the team.
Auslan lessons will incorporate information about the Deaflympics and we are hoping to stream some of their matches to show students the features of Basketball as a Deaf sport.
This links into ‘understanding Deaf culture’ which is part of the Auslan curriculum.
We are looking forward to AJ’s visit and seeing our students with a splash of Green and Gold to show our support.
Year 3 to 6 Bike Education
- Years 3 to 4: Weeks 2 to 8 (Excluding week 7 swimming)
- Years 5 to 6: Weeks 3 to 8
These sessions will be held in line with the PE sessions.
Year 3/4 Urban Quest Incursion
On Thursday 23rd October Year 3 & 4 students will be taking part in a dynamic and interactive race that is set up around the school. It is full of clever riddles, hilarious challenges and lots of fun!
Smile Squad Return
For those that missed out on seeing the Smile Squad team last Term they returning for additional sessions Mon. 27th October to Wed 12th November.
