Welcome back to our students and families for Term 4
140TH CELEBRATIONS
It’s been a wonderful start to the term, highlighted by the celebrations of Somerville Primary School’s 140th anniversary last week. The week was a great success, with students engaging in a range of activities and events that culminated in our special Friday assembly.
Throughout the week, we welcomed a number of special guests and provided students with the opportunity to learn about the different eras and the rich history of Somerville and our school. It was pleasing to see how our community embraced the celebrations, a true reflection of the way we continue to strive, grow, and shine every day.
UPCOMING EVENTS
There are always many exciting activities happening at Somerville Primary, including the return of icy poles on Fridays, UR Strong Foundation and Urban Quest incursions for our Year 3/4 students, swimming for our Year 5/6 students and our Preps are heading off to Legoland.
ART SHOW
Another highlight for the term, will be our Art Show on Wednesday 29th October from 3:30–5:30pm. This event will showcase the incredible creativity and artistic talents of our students and is always a wonderful celebration of the arts within our school community. We look forward to seeing families come along to enjoy and support this special occasion.
2026 CLASSES
We are in the process of organising classes for 2026. Many hours are spent by all staff in determining class structures that best support our students. We use a range of measures including student requests, academic levels, social interactions, and professional judgement to create class groups that embrace, engage, and challenge each student to grow.
Requests by parents and carers are considered when forming grades. If you would like to submit a request, please send it in writing to somerville.ps@education.vic.gov.au prior to 4pm on Friday 7th November 2025. Please note that while all requests will be considered, they cannot be guaranteed.
Thank you to our staff, students, and families for their ongoing support and enthusiasm. I look forward to another productive and positive term ahead.
Kind regards,
Jamie Sharp - Principal
