LEARNING

Teaching & Learning @ MPHPS

Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0)at Mill Park Heights Primary School

At Mill Park Heights Primary School, our teachers are committed to providing the best possible learning experiences for every student. One of the key ways we are doing this is by engaging in ongoing professional learning aligned with the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0).

What is VTLM 2.0?

The Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 is a framework developed by the Department of Education to support high-quality teaching in all Victorian government schools. It is based on strong research about how students learn best and focuses on ensuring every child can succeed. (Victorian Government Education)

At its core, VTLM 2.0 highlights two key areas:

  • How students learn (for example, how memory, attention, and practice support learning)
  • How teachers teach (including planning, explicit teaching, and helping students apply their learning)

Why is this important for your child?

Research shows that clear, structured teaching helps students:

  • Build strong foundations in literacy and numeracy
  • Retain knowledge more effectively
  • Develop confidence as learners
  • Apply their skills to new and more complex tasks.

Professional Learning at Mill Park Heights PS

To bring this model to life in the classroom, teachers have been actively engaging in professional learning.

What does this look like?

Our staff have been:

  • Participating in professional learning sessions focused on VTLM 2.0
  • Collaborating in teaching teams to plan lessons aligned with the model
  • Exploring evidence-based strategies, especially explicit teaching practices
  • Reflecting on their teaching and using student data to improve learning outcomes.

A culture of continuous improvement

At MPHPS, professional learning is not a one-off event, it is an ongoing process. Teachers regularly:

  • Share ideas and successful strategies
  • Observe and learn from one another
  • Adjust their teaching to meet the needs of their students.

This collaborative approach ensures that every classroom reflects current best practice.

Looking ahead

At MPHPS, we are proud to be actively engaging in this work, ensuring that our students benefit from the very best teaching practices today and into the future.
