HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY:

Wed 25th March

Students involved in the house cross country event on Wednesday the 25th March must check that they have been added to the relevant Compass event. All students participating should have completed the Microsoft Form on Teams by the end of the school day on Friday 20th of March. If you have not signed up via the form you cannot participate on the day. The race schedule is outlined in the Compass event.

On the day:

Meet at the flagpoles at the start of the period for roll marking.
Students must bring a drink bottle and other personal essentials eg. Asthma puffer and EpiPen.
- Students with asthma and anaphylaxis must have these items with them, if not they will not be able to participate.
Students must be wearing their PE uniform to run in.

VSC ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

The VSC Athletics Carnival was an extremely successful day. House spirit and participation was at an all time high which saw multiple heats of events on the track take place, and many waiting their turn at the jumps and throws! A truly impressive sight. Thanks to the canteen staff for catering the day, the marching band led by Mr Muddyman for their fantastic performances and to all staff and students who attended the day and contributed their efforts. It takes a village!

DIVISION SWIMMING

Waverley Division Swimming was held on Monday the 2nd of March at Oakleigh Recreation Centre. The weather conditions left much to be desired on the day as it rained on and off, though that didn’t deter our committed squad from turning up and getting the job done! Special mention to the junior students who competed out of their age group – in some cases filled in gaps in U20 events so that we had the best chance possible at accumulating the most points we could.

INTERMEDIATE ROUND ROBIN

Cricket

Girls

The Intermediate girls cricket team had a great day out, working well as a team and supporting each other during the games. They won the first game convincingly against Glen Waverley, followed by the final game against a very strong Mount Waverley team. Mount Waverley have proven to be a dominant side in previous years, and the girls knew this was going to be a challenge. Everyone contributed and played their role allowing us to win the game and become division champions. Thanks everyone for a great day!

Boys/Mixed

On March 4 the intermediate Boys Cricket team headed off to Mulgrave to compete in the Waverley Division cricket tournament. Our first game was against Highvale which proved to be a cliff-hanger that went right down to the final ball. Vermont batted first posting a respectable score of 121 for the loss of only 2 wickets. Iyan batted superbly to score an impressive 37 and was ably assisted by Rohan (24) who together put on 79 for the first wicket. When Rohan was dismissed trying to lift the run rate, Jackson quickly picked up the pace and when he was joined at the crease by Taha they ensured that the opposition would have to score at greater than run a ball to chase down the total.

In the field Vermont was exceptional with some outstanding catches being held, and some really great fielding efforts, to restrict the oppositions scoring. Jackson M did a tremendous job behind the stumps to keep the byes to an absolute minimum. Unfortunately, we struggled at the bowling crease and although we managed to consistently take wickets, we conceded quite a few extras, meaning that Highvale was able to stay in the game. Ultimately, they required 4 runs off the final ball and due to some clever running between the wickets were able chase down our total.

Having missed the final, Vermont finished with a fun game against Glen Waverley College to close out the day. Congratulations to all the boys who played. The team was well captained by Rohan and ably supported by Jackson and Taha. Despite losing, the boys should be well proud of their efforts, and they we were a delight to coach. Special thanks to Ms D’arcy for all her work on the day.

Volleyball

Girls

Both Intermediate Girls teams played exceptionally well in the Round Robin stages dominating the other schools whilst showcasing their excellent skills and teamwork.

Unfortunately for the A Team we fell just short in the final, however the girls showed outstanding sportsmanship in genuinely congratulating their opponents and the referee and line judges. All girls on both teams performed fantastically throughout the day, highlighting the strong team that VSC will undoubtedly have in Senior and Intermediate Girls Volleyball in the next few years.

Boys/Mixed

The Intermediate Boys/Mixed Volleyball teams standard of play was very high, and despite facing some very strong teams, our students competed very well, with most games decided by only a few points. The team demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the day, showing respect to referees, opposing teams and each other. It was also great to see several students step up to help coach and support other division teams throughout the day as well. Overall, a great effort.

Tennis

Girls, Boys/Mixed

Vermont took a full contingent of teams to the Waverley Division Intermediate Tennis. The A team of boys consisting of Jade Y, Jacob W, Henry B, Javen G and Vivaan D had a great start, being the victors over Glen Waverley 5 matches to 1. They played Mt Waverley next and this was a tight tussle. Unfortunately, the boys went down 4 matches to 2 with Mt Waverley the eventual winners on the day. The boys went onto win against Highvale SC 5 matches to 1. A great team effort!

The B boys team consisted of Ethan Z, Ethan S, Vruksh P, Abyan K, Alaap Y and Ravi V. They played two sets of doubles match each and lost to Glen Waverley 3 matches to 1 in their first outing. The boys had a walkover against Mt Waverley, winning 4-0. They then won against Highvale SC 4 matches to 1. They were the overall winners on the day – fantastic! Another great effort.

Our girls A team, consisting of Doris F, Stephanie J, Emma M and Micaela A played against Glen Waverley in the opening round. They went down 6 matches to 0. They only had one other team in the competition to play and that was against Mount Waverley. Vermont went down 5 matches to 1 – a fantastic effort by Micaela to win the final singles match.

Our girls B team, consisting of Katherine Z, Bonnie S, Jade G and Zara B had only one team to compete against on the day. They went down to Glen Waverley 4 matches to 0.

Vermont displayed great team spirit and camaraderie throughout the day and should be congratulated on giving it their all, regardless of their level of experience in playing tennis. Well done to all involved. Special thanks to Meliz Goh who helped in team selection and coaching on the day. Also to Izzy who came along as a helper. Much appreciated.

Softball

Great work to our Intermediate Softball team, who demolished the competition on the day! An exemplary effort from our mixed group of 9s and 10s! Looking forward to our next challenge with regionals.

Year 7 Tennis

The Year 7 Boys and Girls Tennis Team represented the school with great enthusiasm and positive attitudes in their matches against Highvale SC, Mt Waverley SC and Glen Waverley SC. Although the team did not come away with a win, all students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the day, showing respect to their opponents, teammates and officials. It was pleasing to see the players encouraging one another, trying their best in each match and enjoying the opportunity to compete and improve their skills. Overall, it was a fun and valuable experience for everyone involved, and the team should be proud of the way they represented the school.

The Year 7 Girls cricket team had a fun day out at Lum Reserve on Tuesday the 10th of March. Our first match of the day against Mount Waverley went down to the wire, with the girls chasing down a target of 109 runs with just one ball to spare. In the final, Highvale set us a target of 100 to win, but their bowling was too strong and we fell short. Some great individual highlights included Chloe and Sophie’s batting, Aaliyah and Nammi’s bowling, and Annika’s wicket-keeping. The most pleasing aspect of the day was that our fielding, bowling and teamwork continued to improve as the day progressed. Special thanks to our Year 9 coaches, Amber and Emily, for their help on the day. Well done girls, we’ll come back stronger next year!

Boys/Mixed

Year 7 Boys Mixed Cricket ventured out to Mulgrave to compete in the cricket. First up we played Mount Waverley and they were pretty good: good line and length bowling and fielding whereby they restricted our score to 84 and were able to chase them down. Our next game against Highvale resulted in a very comfortable win only chasing 49 runs. Commendable efforts from Owen and Geordie. What an amazing day out we all had for Year 7 volleyball. The girls played some very competitive matches and both Team A and B won their finals. Moreover, the girls showed themselves to be good sports, have excellent team skills and did Vermont proud. A special thanks to our coaches- Shaylea J and Sophie! They motivated their teams and have worked really hard over numerous trainings to build to fantastic teams.

Boys/Mixed

What a fantastic day for the first Year 7 round of division sport! Our Team B players were flying high beating both Mt Waverley and Highvale in the first two rounds. Unfortunately, Glen Waverley’s serving got the best of us in round three. It didn’t dampen our spirits however; the team came out blazing for the finals beating Highvale in a nail-biter. Jonty C’s determination and team spirit did not go unnoticed! Team A were amazing- the teamwork and skill development from their first training to session to game day was phenomenal. At the end of the day Glen Waverley and Mt Waverley proved too strong, despite a courageous comeback attempt led by Romeo H and Jett S in round three. All the games were close giving us plenty of opportunity to reset for next year. A massive shout out to our Year 10 coaches Craig C, Preston-Lee C, Louie K and Tlkahyel M - honestly did such a fantastic job!

Baseball

The year 7 boys baseball team had a fantastic day out assisted by student coaches Tony and Albert. Plenty of fun was had, and the team worked incredibly well together in all matches taking on board feedback, and supporting one another on the diamond.

Training will continue at a later date ahead of the EMR finals held in October.
