From the Head of Character and Culture
Over the past fortnight, our Senior School has been alive with activity, with students embracing opportunities to lead, perform, and connect with their peers and teachers.
Prefect candidates in Melbourne
This week, fifteen of our 2026 Prefect candidates travelled to Melbourne to take part in the ESA Student Leadership Day. This program brought together young leaders from across the state, providing workshops, keynote speakers, and discussions designed to strengthen leadership skills and broaden perspectives. Our students represented Girton with enthusiasm and are already bringing fresh ideas and energy back into our school community.
Senior School Ensembles Evening
Music took centre stage at the recent Senior School Ensembles Evening, where our music students and vocal groups showcased their skills in front of an appreciative audience of family and friends. The event highlighted the dedication of our students and staff, and it was a wonderful celebration of collaboration, commitment, and the joy of live performance.
SunSmart reminder
Finally, a reminder that from Monday 31 August, all students are required to wear hats during recess, lunch and outdoor activities, in line with our School’s SunSmart Policy. In addition, caps and buckets hats are no longer part of the School’s Uniform and Personal Presentation Policy. In accordance with SunSmart expectations, all students are expected to wear the Hybrid or Slouch hats, which are both available from Bob Stewart. We appreciate your support in ensuring students are prepared with their hats each day as we move into the warmer months.

Lights, Camera, Review!
Girton is partnering with Bendigo Cinemas to run a Senior School co-curricular activity called the Bendigo Cinema Film Reviewers.
Girton students steps into the shoes of professional film critics, previewing the latest releases and sharing their opinions with the Bendigo community, right on the Bendigo Cinemas website.
Sibylle Van Bree and Misha Gupta have reviewed The End of Oak Street, now showing at Bendigo Cinemas. Head to the Bendigo Cinemas website to read their full reviews, along with more from our Girton Film Reviewers as the program continues:
It's a fantastic opportunity for our students to build their writing and critical thinking skills and see their work published for a real audience. We can't wait to see what the rest of our Film Reviewers make of the big screen next.

Senior Ensembles Concert - Oh What a Night!
The Senior Ensembles Concert at Ulumburra Theatre on Tuesday 11 August was a wonderful celebration of the breadth, quality and diversity of music-making at Girton.
With around 150 students from Years 7–12 performing across more than 12 ensembles, the evening showcased an impressive range of musical styles. The preparation of the students was evident in every performance, supported by the expertise and dedication of our music teachers and Ensemble Directors.
A particular highlight was the warm and encouraging atmosphere amongst students and staff, with a sense of pride and connection throughout the evening, both on and off the stage. The quality of the performances, combined with the visual impact of the video projections and the magnificent Ulumbarra Theatre, created a memorable concert experience.
I extend a huge thank you to all involved in helping create such a wonderful musical experience: Ensemble Directors, Instrumental Music staff, our AV and Tech team, Community Relations team, Music Captains, and the Arts Faculty team.
As my first Senior Ensembles Concert at Girton, it was a particularly special evening. I am so looking forward to working with everyone to build on this strong foundation and help shape many wonderful future Ensembles Concerts at Girton.

Our first four shows were a sellout, so we have added one more! Tickets are available for a Saturday matinee performance of High School Musical – One Act Version.

Seeking students for Tumbling School Competition
Can you do a forward roll, cartwheel or perhaps flip??? If so we are looking for students from Prep-Year 12 who would like to enter the Palmers Gym Tumbling Schools Competition.
Date: Sunday 13th September
Time: TBC once entries are submitted
Uniform: Girton PE uniform or Girton leotard: We have some available for students to use.
