🧪 SciTech Update – Week 7

It has been another busy and creative few weeks in SciTech! Students have now moved from researching and planning to building, designing and bringing their ideas to life in Minecraft Education. There has been plenty of creativity, collaboration and problem-solving happening across our SciTech classrooms.

🦖 Years 3 & 4 – Building the Museum

Our Year 3 and 4 students have continued developing their Museum of Natural History in Minecraft Education. Students are now busy constructing their museum spaces and creating exhibitions based on their research into dinosaurs and other once-living organisms.

From dinosaur displays and fossils to carefully designed exhibition spaces, students are working to make their museums both interesting and informative. They are considering how visitors will move through their museums, what information they need to include and how they can use Minecraft to communicate their scientific knowledge.

It has been fantastic to see students taking ownership of their designs, working together to solve building challenges and finding creative ways to showcase what they have learned.

🌍 Years 5 & 6 – Our Zoos Are Taking Shape!

Our Year 5 and 6 students have now fully embraced their 21st-century zoo design challenge. After researching biomes, animals, and habitat requirements, students are putting their knowledge into practice by constructing their virtual zoos in Minecraft Education.

Students are creating habitats for animals from different parts of the world while considering space, shelter, food, climate, enrichment and animal welfare. They are also considering the experiences of visitors who will eventually explore their zoos.

What makes this project particularly exciting is that there is no single "right" zoo. Each group is making different design decisions and finding their own solutions to the challenges involved in creating a modern, conservation-focused zoo.

🧠 Science + Creativity + Technology

Both year levels are discovering that SciTech isn't just about knowing scientific facts — it's about using that knowledge to create something meaningful.

As students build, they are constantly making decisions, testing ideas, solving problems and adapting their designs. Minecraft has provided a fantastic environment for students to demonstrate their scientific understanding while also developing their creativity, communication and collaboration skills.

The museums and zoos are still works in progress, and we are looking forward to seeing how they develop over the coming weeks!

⭐ Living Our School Values

Our SciTech projects continue to provide plenty of opportunities for students to demonstrate our school values of Respect, Collaboration and Perseverance. Whether working together on a tricky build, helping a classmate or changing a design that isn't quite working, students are learning that successful projects often involve plenty of teamwork, patience and persistence.

It has been wonderful to see the students' ideas gradually transform into fully developed virtual worlds.
