Principal's Message

Dear Families,
We have had a wonderful start to Term 2, with bright sunny days and a lively buzz of activity across the school. Classrooms and playgrounds have been filled with learning, laughter, and excitement as students settled back into their routines. Italian Day was a particular highlight and a great success, and it was lovely to see the children dressed in their colourful costumes as they celebrated the day together.
Today, how many of us set off on a journey without putting the destination in our GPS or have searched Google Maps?
In the Gospel for the Fifth Sunday of Easter (John 14:1-12) Jesus tells his disciples that they already know the way to the place he is going, even though they have never been there before. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God still, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house; if there were not, I should have told you. I am now going to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me; so that where I am, you may be too. You know the way to the place where I am going."
Getting to know Jesus more intimately, listening to him and following him more closely will lead us to God who is our destination. We encounter Jesus in our lives every time we hear His Word through the scriptures, in the breaking of the bread and in allowing God to act in us in taking care of the needs of others. If we follow what Jesus teaches us and do what pleases God we will be on the right path, ‘the way’ which leads us to everlasting happiness.
Our Challenge:
As Christians we are called to be people of truth in our actions and relationships with others and ourselves. Our belief in the Resurrection and the Good News of salvation is not something we just keep in our mind to think about later but is acted out in the way we treat others. Some people may wonder where God is in their lives, but never go looking for him. The challenge for us is to open our eyes, share our belief with others and recognise the many ways Jesus comes to us.
Closure Days
A reminder that on Monday 4th May the school will be closed so staff can complete professional learning about our new Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) project. We will spend time exploring the values that the community voted on and how we can implement these into our school.
We also have an extra long weekend coming up in June. The school will be closed on both Monday 8th June (King's Birthday) and Tuesday 9th June. No staff will be on site on these days.
First Eucharist
Our Year 4 students will begin preparing for their First Eucharist this term. A reminder that the commitment masses are on this Saturday 2nd May - 5:30pm at Sacred Heart and 7:00pm at Christ Our Holy Redeemer.
Mother's Day Stall
Our Mother's Day Stall will be held on Wednesday 6th May. Students are reminded to bring their money and a bag to put their gifts in. A huge thank you to the Parent Association for the work that has gone on behind the scenes to make this stall possible.
Mother's Day Breakfast
We can't wait to spoil all of our mothers and special women in the COHR community at our Mother's Day Breakfast. The breakfast will be in the hall from 7:30-8:45am on Friday May 8th and will be followed by a Mother's Day Assembly. Any dad's that are able to help out are asked to arrive at 7am for set up and preparation. Don't forget to complete the form on nForma so we know who is attending.
First of May Put Hats Away
Tomorrow on the 1st of May we will put hats away for the cooler months. This is a good chance for hats to get washed and checked to see if they need to be replaced. Hats will be required again from September 1st.
