Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we head into the final week of term, I did want to pass on my well wishes to all in our community who recently celebrated Eid al-Fitr. There were many students at our school who were taking part in Ramadan over the past few weeks, and we know that these same families enjoyed a wonderful celebration marking the end of that period. To all who took part and later celebrated this wonderful event congratulations.
Over the course of this term, we have had some visitors who will be more permanent from term two, namely Shelley Wockner and Aimee Higgins. Both of these teachers have been on Family Leave, and both will be returning next term. Aimee will take over grade 2A on Thursdays and Fridays as Miss G nears retirement. Shelley will resume her role as a Leading Teacher (Instructional Excellence) supporting teachers and students. Whilst mothering if the most important job in the world, we are grateful they can make Mackellar their second most important job.
Early in term two we will be commemorating ANZAC Day led by our student leaders. Parents and friends are most welcome to join us. With ANZAC Day falling on a Saturday, our commemoration will take place on Friday April 24th. During this week, all grades will be doing a mini-unit on ANZAC Day unpacking the day's history, significance and enduring meaning to our society.
Later in the term, our grade 3 and 4 students have the opportunity to attend Cave Hill Creek Camp for three days and two nights of fun and adventure. There are still some limited spots on the bus, so if there are families who would like their child to attend, please contact the office. If families are finding the cost prohibitive, options are available through the opffice to support this.
Finally, as we we conclude this edition and this first term of school, we do so on the day before Good Friday, which for Catholics marks the most important spiritual day in the calendar. For those in our community who celebrate Easter, either this or next weekend, we hope this is a special time with your family.
Please remember, school finishes at 2:30pm this Thursday with TheirCare available from that time, and throughout the school holiday period.
Kind regards and Happy Easter,
Simon McGlade
Principal
