Harmony Week

On Monday 18th March, our school community came together to celebrate Harmony Day with a vibrant and meaningful assembly. Proceedings began with a stirring Acknowledgement of Country delivered by Aurora, who wore a traditional Aboriginal possum-skin cloak.

Students then showcased a range of cultural performances representing the Philippines, Nepal, New Zealand, Nauru, Macedonia, Italy, Vietnam and Greece, highlighting the rich diversity within our school. The whole school joined together in a passionate rendition of the song ‘I Am Australian’.

Our Grade 6 student leaders confidently led the assembly, delivering powerful speeches and introducing each performance with enthusiasm and excitement.

We were also honoured to welcome local MP Natalie Hutchins, who addressed the audience and spoke about the importance of inclusivity, respect and celebrating cultural diversity within the community.

A highlight of the day was seeing so many students dressed in traditional cultural attire or wearing orange in support of Harmony Day, reflecting the strong sense of belonging shared across the school.

Celebrations continued on Wednesday with a Cultural Lunch held in all classes, further recognising and embracing the diverse backgrounds that make up our school community. From spanakopita from Greece to spring rolls from Vietnam, along with many other delicious dishes from around the world, our families generously shared a wonderful variety of foods that highlighted the unique flavours and traditions of their cultures.

Classroom teachers planned various Harmony Day activities for their students throughout the week as part of Inquiry.
