✨ Welcome to Term 3! We are so excited to begin the second half of the school year and continue our learning journey together.
A huge congratulations to our wonderful Foundation students for reaching the incredible milestone of 100 Days of Prep! We are so proud of how much they have grown in confidence, independence, and resilience since the beginning of the year. Thank you to all our families and carers who joined us to celebrate this special occasion. It was fabulous to see our Finchaburras dressed up as what they would like to be when they grow up and proudly sharing their future dreams. We look forward to another fantastic term of learning as we continue supporting our students in working towards making those dreams come true!

Here's a snapshot of what we've been learning during the first three weeks of Term 3.
📖 Literacy
In Phonics, our focus has been on the letters qu and z, and students have also begun learning their first digraphs: ck, wh, and ss. As they practised decoding words, they discovered an exciting new concept—that some four-letter words only have three sounds because two letters work together to make one sound!
In Reading, students explored fictional texts by listening to The Magic Hat. They learnt to identify important text features, including the title, author, illustrator, characters, setting, problem, and resolution.
In Writing, our Finchaburras began learning a new text type—Recounts. Students have been working hard to write about their semester holidays by organising their ideas in sequence and including details about their experiences.

🔢 Numeracy
This term, we have been exploring Australian money. Students have been learning to recognise our coins and notes and understand their values. To bring this learning to life, we opened the Finchaburras Tuck Shop, where students selected groceries and paid for their items using the correct amount of money. Our student shopkeepers did a fantastic job checking that customers paid the right amount! We have also continued to consolidate our understanding of patterns and part-part-whole relationships to strengthen number knowledge.

🌦️ Inquiry
Our Inquiry topic this term is Weather and Seasons. Students have started exploring weather by making daily observations and discussing the changes they notice each day—especially all the recent rain and windy weather! We have also been learning about Winter and why it brings colder temperatures. Over the coming weeks, we are excited to explore each of the four seasons in greater depth and discover how they influence the world around us.

💡 Well Done, Foundation!
We are so proud of the enthusiasm and curiosity our Finchaburras have shown during the first few weeks of Term 3. They have settled back into their learning routines beautifully and continue to challenge themselves every day. We can't wait to see all the wonderful learning and growth that the rest of the term will bring!
