Hello to all Clayton North Primary families and friends. We are well into Term 3 and the weather has certainly changed! However, the addition of the COLA has provided students another nice, dry space to play! After a well-earned midyear break, our learning programs re-commenced without delay and students have continued working hard on their goals and improving their skills.

A highlight that can't be overlooked was our Foundation students' 100 days of school celebration. Students (and teachers) looked fantastic and there was such a wide range of careers on display! A huge thank you to Akshpreet and Mirren for their dedicated effort in putting together a wonderful day of fun for students!

SOLAR Reading Intervention: Building Confident Readers

Throughout Terms 2 and 3, selected Year 2 and Year 4 students have been participating in the SOLAR (Sounds, Oral Language and Reading) program. This program has been developed and lead by Manpreet which has had a strong positive impact on participating students' confidence and ability as readers. 

SOLAR program is a structured literacy intervention that provides explicit, systematic instruction in phonics, oral language, high-frequency words, decoding and reading fluency, helping students develop the essential foundations for successful reading.

Delivered in small, targeted groups, SOLAR program uses evidence-based teaching practices to strengthen students' reading accuracy, fluency and confidence. As their skills continue to grow, students are becoming more engaged in learning, increasingly willing to take risks, and more independent when reading unfamiliar words and texts.

It has been wonderful to witness the enthusiasm students bring to each session and the pride they take in their progress. Many students are demonstrating significant growth in letter–sound knowledge, decoding skills and reading fluency, while approaching reading tasks with greater confidence. Hearing comments such as "Reading is easy!", "I love SOLAR!" and "Wow! I read this all by myself!" highlights the positive impact the program is having on both their skills and their self-belief.

We sincerely thank Herlina and Pramodha for their ongoing support in facilitating the SOLAR program throughout Terms 2 and 3. Their commitment and assistance has contributed to creating a positive and encouraging learning environment where students feel supported as they continue to develop their reading skills.

We are proud of the progress our SOLAR students have made so far and look forward to celebrating many more reading milestones in the weeks ahead.

ICAS Assessments

The ICAS Assessment window opens next week with the Digital Technologies assessment up first. Students who have elected to complete ICAS Assessments will complete these at school. Please view the date and time of when each test will be held, below. If your child is away on the scheduled day, they will complete the test on Thursday or Friday of that same week if they have returned to school.

Digital technologies: Wednesday 5th August 11:30am

English: Wednesday 12th August at 11:30am

Science: Wednesday 19th August at 11:30am

Maths: Wednesday 26th August at 11:30am

Mathematics and Phonics Intervention at CNPS

This term, we are introducing two targeted intervention programs to provide additional support for students in both Mathematics and Literacy.

Our Mathematics Intervention Program is supporting selected Year 4, 5 and 6 students through explicit, small-group instruction focused on strengthening foundational number skills and key mathematical concepts to build confidence and improve learning outcomes.

Our Phonics Intervention Program is supporting selected Foundation students through explicit, small-group instruction focused on developing essential early literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, letter-sound knowledge, blending and segmenting.

The Mathematics Intervention Program has been designed by Precious, our Numeracy Leader, while the Phonics Intervention Program has been developed by Akshpreet, our Foundation PLC Leader. Both programs are being delivered by our newest Education Support staff member, Ann, whose work is providing targeted support to help students make strong progress in their learning.

Premiers Reading Challenge

There are 37 days remaining for students to complete the Premier's Reading Challenge. So far, as a school, we have read and verified... 668 books!  Our goal is to hit 1,000 books read by the end of the challenge, so we need to get reading!

Thank you to the families who are supporting their children by reading at home and logging their books on the PRC portal.  If you require another copy of your child's login details, please contact the office.

Behaviour Response Chart

As part of our commitment to providing a safe, supportive and consistent learning environment, we have introduced the CNPS Behaviour Response Chart. Aligned with our School Wide Positive Behaviour Matrix (SWPBS), the chart provides a clear and consistent framework for responding to student behaviour across the school.

Behavioural concerns are categorised into Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3, with Stage 1 representing lower-level behaviours that can typically be managed within the classroom, and Stage 3 reflecting the most serious behaviours requiring an immediate and more intensive response from the principal team. This shared approach ensures students, staff and families have a clear understanding of behavioural expectations and how behaviour concerns will be managed consistently to support positive student outcomes.
