Hooptime Basketball Day
On Thursday the 25rd of June 34 Grade 5/6 students headed to the State Basketball Centre to compete at the Senior Hoop time Basketball Day. The students were split into 4 teams a Senior Future Stars Boys, Senior Future Stars Girls and two Rookies teams.
The senior boy’s future stars team started off their first game a little bit slow but managed to get a good win. The boys started to work more on their passing game and working as a team to get out to a good lead for their remaining four games and went through undefeated in all five of their pool matches. The boys had to play Lysterfield in the semifinal they got off to a great start but unfortunately run out of legs to go down 13-5. The boys all played exceptionally well with Owen knocking down a number of 3s, Levi finding space to score easy buckets, Archie hassled hard all day, Darius rebounded exceptionally well and Josiah finding his teammates under pressure. Isaak and Archer defended the basket well and Muhamed and Aydin worked well as a team all day.

The senior girls future stars also got off to a slow start but managed to snag a win 6-2 for their first game against Lysterfield. Game 2 was probably the girl’s closest game against Strathcona the girls had to play hard to secure a 15-to-12-point win. The girls got into a rhythm and also went undefeated throughout their remaining pool matches. The girls had to play Mooroolbark in the Semi final and cruised to a 12-4 win. After a 10-minute break the girls reset for the Grand Final against Strathcona. All girls put in an exceptional effort and played their part in the final to come away with the win by 9 points. Special mention to Maddy who played a lot of game time and kept competing against tough competition. Zarah scored early buckets in all matches to give our team some breathing room. Arosh and Poppy hassled hard and Sophie secured crucial rebounds. Lacey and Grace defended the basket well and Merhraban and Ayesha had a good grasp of the basketball rules by the end of the day. The girls now progress to the Regional finals which will be held early in term 4. Well Done Girls.
Both Rookies teams played 9 games between them. They all played well as a team passing the ball around, to give everyone a chance on the team to contribute. The showed great sportsmanship and came away with a lot of wins and big smiles from the experience of the day. Well Done to our Rookies Teams.
