Big Freeze for FightMND at the Bowlo

Next Thursday afternoon, our wonderful neighbours at the St Kilda Sports Club (the Bowlo) will be hosting a special community fundraising event in support of FightMND.

The event aims to raise an incredible $10,000 for Motor Neurone Disease research through a local version of the famous “Big Freeze” ice bucket challenge. Families are encouraged to head next door straight after school to support this fantastic community event before many of our parents then head down to the Prince Bandroom later that evening for the Parents Battle of the Bands.

There will be fundraising activities, raffles, food, music and, most importantly, plenty of icy buckets of water being tipped over some brave local community members for a very good cause. Rumour has it that a few familiar SKiPPS staff faces may even be taking part!

More details will be shared with families over the coming days, but for now we encourage our community to come along, support a very important cause and enjoy what promises to be a fun and meaningful local event.

Celebration of the Arts 2026 - save the date

We are excited to share the date for one of the most exciting dates on our SKiPPS calendar - our annual Celebration of the Arts (CotA) evening.

For those new to our community, COTA is our whole-school celebration of the Visual and Performing Arts curriculum. It’s an evening when the school is transformed into a giant gallery and performance space, as students share the art, music, movement and drama they’ve been exploring throughout the term. As always, this year's event promises to be a vibrant and unforgettable showcase of the incredible creativity that thrives here at our school.

Every year carries its own theme, and we are putting the finishing touches to our 2026 theme and look forward to sharing this in the very near future!

The date for Celebration of the Arts this year is Thursday 22nd October after school from around 5pm to 8pm. Times to be confirmed. Please put this in your diaries as its one of the biggest events in the school calendar.

If anyone in the community would like to be involved in this event, please contact Audrey and Chantel via chantel.jose@education.vic.gov.au. You may have expertise in staging, costumes or graphic design to support with the preparations. There may also be jobs closer to the date to support the set up and pack up which we will communicate with plenty of notice.

Trivia Night 2026 - 🎉 Calling All Future Trivia Night Legends! 🎉

Each year, the SKiPPS Parents Trivia Night delivers an unforgettable evening filled with laughter, friendly competition, creative costumes, questionable general knowledge, and a dance floor that somehow always comes alive by the end of the night!

From hilarious dress-up themes to fantastic music and plenty of memorable moments, Trivia Night has become one of our favourite community events  - and now we’re looking for a new team of wonderful parent volunteers to help bring the 2026 event to life!

As our existing fundraising team are still recovering from the exertions of the fete, we are on the lookout for a small group of parents to lead the event planning. This would involve coordinating:

  • an event venue
  • the trivia company
  • some light entertainment and event organisation, possibly the running of a bar!

The good news? You won’t be starting from scratch! There are plenty of experienced parents happy to help, share ideas, and support the new team with everything that has worked well in previous years.

If you’ve been thinking about getting a little more involved in school community life, this could be the perfect opportunity. It’s a fun way to meet other families, contribute to the school community, and help continue one of SKiPPS’ most-loved traditions.

Enrol for 2027

As we begin planning for the 2027 school year, enrolment tours are now running at St Kilda Park Primary School. We currently have places available across all year levels and would greatly appreciate our community helping to spread the word about SKiPPS.

If you know of any friends, neighbours or relatives looking for an excellent local primary school, please encourage them to come along for a tour and see our school in action. Tour dates and bookings can be found via the school website.

We also ask any current SKiPPS families with younger siblings starting Foundation in 2027 to please complete their enrolment application as soon as possible.

All 2027 Foundation enrolments are now completed online through the new Victorian Government VicStudents portal. If families require any assistance registering or completing the process, please contact Wendy in the office who will be very happy to help.

Join the SKiPPS orchestra

Our wonderful SKiPPS orchestra wanted to share the great news that have been awarded a generous grant from South Melbourne Community Chest for the 2026 school year.

This funding allows them to support a number of students by covering participation fees, ensuring that more children have access to music.

No child should miss out on the opportunity to experience the many benefits of music due to financial constraints. Music education has been shown to support children's cognitive development, enhance memory and concentration and contribute positively to academic performance. Beyond this, it builds confidence, creativity and a sense of belonging, especially within the SKIPPS Orchestra, which is a truly special group.

We are also incredibly lucky to have Michael Roper. A former SKIPPS teacher, Michael brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of our community. His ability to connect with students and inspire them musically creates an environment where they can thrive and grow.

If financial concerns have ever been a barrier to your child's participation, we encourage you to come along Wednesdays at 8am and be part of the orchestra. We are committed to making this program accessible and inclusive for all.
