Rugby League Parramatta Eels Cup 2026

I am so proud to share the news from our Rugby League day! Maronite College of the Holy Family has once again shown its strength and spirit, progressing once more to a place in the Grand Final, to be played on 30 June 2026. This achievement is remarkable, and the team has now advanced to the Grand Final for 5 consecutive years. The determination, resilience, camaraderie, and heart our students displayed were second to none!

A massive congratulations to Coach Mr Michael Abood for his passion and leadership of the team. His determination over the year has played a significant role in building this legacy. Congratulations also to all the players for their effort, teamwork, and pride in representing the College. They have made our community extremely proud. We wish the team every success as they prepare for the Grand Final and look forward to supporting them in the next stage of their journey.

MCHF Video Games Club Term 2 - Mario Kart 8 Championship

Term 2 of the MCHF Video Games Club wrapped up with a thrilling win by Georgio Bou Melhem of Year 10, concluding the Mario Kart 8 Championship on the Nintendo Switch. The competition saw 32 competitors from Year 7 to Year 12 (as well as a few teachers) try to take out the Championship in a friendly fast-paced environment where skill, wit and determination were on full display over a range of courses to take 1st place. Across a range of intense and enthralling races, competitors demonstrated quick reflexes, focused mindsets and strategic thinking as they battled their way through each round, going from the 32 racers down to the final four. From close finishes to unexpected comebacks, the tournament created an exciting atmosphere filled with energy and fantastic sportsmanship. 

Congratulations to all competitors who have earned their Colour House points for entering. We hope to see more competitors next term!

Year 11 x UNSW In-School Workshop

Year 11 participated in the UNSW In-School workshop, where current UNSW students and representatives visited the College to deliver a session about University life beyond school. Here, these workshops strengthened students' knowledge as well as their skills and confidence as Year 11 students prepare for their final years of schooling, as well as preparing for university through interactive activities, group work and helpful Q and A sessions.

We wish Year 11 all the best as they continue to strive and march forward in their studies and their plans for their future.

Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey

🌿 Adventure. Resilience. Achievement. 🌿

Congratulations to our 15 Bronze Award students and 1 Silver Award student who successfully completed their Adventurous Journey section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at Camp Somerset from 27–29 May.

Over three days, students challenged themselves, worked together, demonstrated perseverance, and created memories that will last a lifetime. We are incredibly proud of the determination, resilience and growth shown throughout the journey.

Year 11 and 12 Workshops – UNSW Gateway 

On Thursday 28 May, Year 11 students participated in the UNSW Gateway workshop

Building Your Strengths. Through thought-provoking conversations and activities, students explored their individual strengths, developed tools for success, and built deeper self-awareness as learners. Students reflected on how their personal strengths can support future opportunities, career pathways, and post-school aspirations

Push up for Mental Health

Our students participated in the Push Up for Mental Health challenge, which commenced on June 3rd - 26th. The team of students met each morning to complete 3307 push-ups over the 20-day period in honour of the 3307 lives lost to suicide. 

A nationwide initiative led by our Ambassadors Dahey M and Christian K, Year 12, supporting both leadership and student voice, key domains of our wellbeing framework 

Calmsley Hill City Farm with Year 2

Year 2 had an unforgettable day exploring Calmsley Hill City Farm, where hands‑on learning came to life in the best possible way. Students fed friendly farm animals, discovered how everyday products come from the land, and learned about the important role farms play in our community. From tractor rides to meeting baby animals, the day was filled with excitement, curiosity, and plenty of wide‑eyed wonder. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect classroom learning with real‑world experiences and enjoy a fun, memorable day outdoors.

Yr 12 Geography field trip

As part of the HSC Geography course, Year 12 students participated in a field trip across Sydney to observe urban dynamics firsthand. This excursion provided a valuable opportunity to apply the concepts we have been studying in class to real-world environments.

Throughout the day, we examined how Sydney's urban landscape has evolved through processes such as urbanisation, redevelopment, and gentrification. We observed the varying land uses across different precincts and investigated how economic, social, and environmental factors influence the city's growth and development.

Overall, the excursion was both educational and engaging, providing valuable insights while helping them develop practical geographical inquiry and fieldwork skills.

Mock Trial

Congratulations to our MCHF Mock Trial Team on their outstanding performance against James Ruse Agricultural High School in the NSW Law Society's Mock Trial Competition.

The team successfully defended a criminal matter, with Mary S being found not guilty of intentionally or recklessly destroying or damaging property under the Crimes Act.

Although MCHF narrowly missed the overall win by just 5 points, we are incredibly proud of their hard work, preparation, and dedication.

A special congratulations to our barristers, George E and Jonah B, solicitor Raphael S, witnesses Charbel T and Mary S (defendant), and court officer Laurell S for their exceptional efforts and professionalism. You all represented our school with pride. Thank you also to the dedicated team that helped with researching the case and putting documents together: Bernadette Y, Elyssa W, and Andrew K.  

Year 9 Levelling Up workshop

ur Year 9 boys and girls participated in Module 2 of the Levelling Up workshop, led by Mat Cogin. Students explored the concept of High Value behaviours, focusing on making positive choices, taking ownership of their actions, and building strong personal character. 

A key focus of the session was resilience, equipping students with practical strategies to navigate challenges, bounce back from setbacks, and persevere through difficult situations. Students were encouraged to reflect on their mindset and how embracing discomfort can lead to growth.

The workshop also challenged students to dream bigger and take risks, stepping outside their comfort zones to pursue meaningful goals. Through discussion and activities, they were inspired to see challenges as opportunities and to take intentional steps towards personal and academic growth.

We are proud of the way our Year 9 cohort engaged with these ideas and look forward to seeing them continue to apply these skills in their journey ahead

Public Speaking

Congratulations to Mary Semaan (Year 10)

We extend our warm congratulations to Mary Semaan (Year 10), who represented our school today in the State Final of the Rotary Youth Voice Public Speaking Competition. More than 850 students participated in local rounds across the state, with only six progressing to the State level—an outstanding achievement in itself.

Although Mary did not place in the final, she delivered speeches of remarkable depth and maturity, with her impromptu speech in particular capturing the attention of the audience. Her dedication and composure were commendable, and we are incredibly proud of her efforts.

Pet program

Our Infants students had a wonderful time participating in the Responsible Pet Program! Through interactive activities and discussions, they learned how to safely approach, interact with and care for pets. Students explored ways to recognise when animals are feeling comfortable or uncomfortable and discovered how respectful behaviour helps keep both people and pets safe. A fun and valuable learning experience for all! 

Kindergarten: PYLO Visit 

On June 16th, our Kindergarten students had a very special visit from our Cumberland Youth Officer, Dean Tonkin, who spoke to the children about stranger danger and personal safety. Students learned important strategies to help keep themselves safe, including identifying trusted adults, understanding safe and unsafe situations, and knowing what to do if they ever feel uncomfortable or unsure.

The session was engaging, age-appropriate and interactive, with students enthusiastically participating in discussions. We thank Dean Tonkin for taking the time to visit our school and support our students in developing important lifelong safety skills.

Secondary Learning Centre News

Our annual knockout Chess Tournament concluded after three weeks of intense and strategic checkmates. Attracting eleven students, two staff, and a diverse level of skills, the matches were friendly yet competitive. The grand final saw Andrew Khoury, our 2025 runner up, tested in a tense tactical battle against Jan Sukaria. Ultimately, Andrew prevailed to claim bragging rights. Congratulations to our winner and thank you to all the players who demonstrated excellent gamesmanship.

Meanwhile, break times have been busy with students taking advantage of the board games and the many free books on offer. 

Library lessons with Years 7-9 are in full swing. Students are encouraged to read widely for their academic and personal growth. All students have their NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge login details and should be reading and updating their logs regularly.

Year 8 St Vincent’s Bake Sale

Year 8 St Vincent’s Medallion participants have been actively involved in a fundraising bake sale to support those in need. Through their efforts, students have raised funds to create self-care packages for people experiencing homelessness. We are incredibly proud of the students’ initiative, teamwork and compassion in working towards making a positive difference.

Mock Win!

Dear MCHF Community,

Congratulations to our MCHF Mock Trial Team on their outstanding victory against Parramatta High School in Round 3 of the NSW Law Society Mock Trial Competition.

The team successfully defended their client in a civil matter, with the court finding our defendant not liable for breach of an oral contract. Their preparation, teamwork and advocacy resulted in an impressive 306–293 win.

A special congratulations to our barristers, George E and Jonah B, who were exceptional in their cross-examinations and in confidently advancing the defence narrative throughout the trial. Their courtroom advocacy was outstanding.

Thank you also to our solicitor, Jason A, whose dedication and hard work behind the scenes ensured the barristers were thoroughly supported throughout the case.

Our defendant, Mary S, delivered an outstanding performance, maintaining with confidence that all agreed services had been provided. Elyssa W, as our backup witness, effectively reinforced the defence case and, together with Mary, handled challenging cross-examination questions with composure and professionalism.

We also acknowledge Bernadette Y for her excellent work as Court Officer, maintaining the order and professionalism of the courtroom proceedings. We also thank May N, Raphael S, Andrew K and Laurelle S for their constant assistance in preparation. 

This result is a testament to the team's commitment, preparation and dedication. We congratulate all members of the Mock Trial Team on their hard work and wish them every success in the upcoming rounds of the competition.

PDSSSC Dance Competitions

On Tuesday 23rd June, 37 MCHF students represented the College at the PDSSSC Competition across both Cultural and Jazz Dance. Both groups delivered strong performances, narrowly missing a place on the podium. A particularly noteworthy achievement was that MCHF had the highest number of male participants in the competition. The students are to be commended for their dedication and effort, especially the time they committed to rehearsing during their lunch breaks in preparation for the event.

ZING Athletics

3 Orange, 3 Yellow, and 3 Beige practised the skill of running in preparation for the athletics carnival. They worked on how to start, hand position, and running in a straight line.
