Sports Update
Sport
Our last session with athletics expert, Jay Stone was this week. The skills he has taught our students in Discus, High Jump, Running, Long Jump and Shot Put has been invaluable. The techniques and drills he has provided will ensure our students are equipped with valuable foundations for our Athletics carnival next week and also in the future. We thank Jay for his professionalism and time in coming to Glen Innes to work with us.
Athletics Carnival
Next Wednesday, the 26th June, we will hold our annual Athletics carnival at King George Oval. Students will be bussed to and from the oval. Thank you to the parents who have offered to help on the day. A note will be sent home with your child today with your role for the carnival.
Mel from Floatin’ Around Coffee Van will be keeping the adults caffeinated, the Lion’s Van will be selling hot chips, sausage sandwiches and drinks and the P&F will be running a canteen selling pies and sausage rolls along with some other treats.
Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the day depending on the weather and please also remind your child/ren to pack their hat. Students may wear a shirt in the colour of their house (Mackillop - yellow, Penola - red and Fitzroy - blue). We look forward to a day of action and fun!
Polding Touch Football Trials
Last Friday, Zoe McAllister, Rosemary Wright and April Collins participated in the Polding Touch Football Trials in Parkes. The girls had a terrific time playing alongside other girls from the Armidale Diocese and learnt a great deal from the experience. Zoe and Rosemary received commendations for their efforts from their coach Bella Rasche. Congratulations girls! We are all very proud of you.
NSWCPS Cross Country
Congratulations to Charlotte Neville and Ivy Watson who competed at the NSWCPS Cross Country event at the Sydney Equestrian Centre two weeks ago. These girls ran their hearts out for 2km and achieved excellent results that they should be extremely proud of. Ivy experienced this level of running for the first time this year and says she learnt a lot from the experience. She placed 36th in her age group. Charlotte competed at this event last year so she had some experience under her belt this time. She ran a great race and left it all out on the track. She placed 7th in her race which makes her the first reserve for her age group. We congratulate these girls on these amazing results and their huge efforts to get to this event.
Toni Palmer Memorial Shield
On Thursday 4th July, 16 of our students in Stages 2 & 3 will travel to Inverell to participate in the Toni Palmer Memorial Shield in the sport of Rugby League. We hope these students have a great day competing against other teams in the Diocese.
