NAIDOC WEEK

We, in the library are getting ready to celebrate NAIDOC WEEK which is just around the corner from July 7th to July 14th. People all across Australia will be celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

NAIDOC Week stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. It's such a special time each year when we honour the oldest culture in the world. The theme for NAIDOC Week is KEEP THE FIRES BURNING! BLAK, LOUD AND PROUD. The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC Week is important because it helps us to learn about the rich cultures and history of the First Australians. It's a great way to show respect and to understand the important role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have in our country.

In our library, we have a beautiful collection of books that celebrate the rich tapestry of Aboriginal Culture. During NAIDOC Week, we will also be using Storybox Library to explore even more stories. Storybox Library offers an exciting way to learn about Aboriginal Culture through engaging storytelling and many of the books are read by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Please feel free to login and enjoy the stories.
