Battle for Australia

Last week on Wednesday, September 2, our Grade 3-6 students had an excursion to Melbourne. This was for the Battle for Australia commemoration, held at the Shrine of Remembrance, where 1000 students from across the state attended. This service is held annually on the first Wednesday in September and recognises the men and women who drove back the Japanese advance in the Second World War. In 1942 and 1943, Australia and her allies fought a series of battles in South East Asia and the Pacific. These battles included the Kokoda Trail, Milne Bay and the Coral Sea. The aim was to defend Australia and push back the advancing Japanese.

You can watch the service below and here: https://www.youtube.com/live/FtqXZrRVFjk?si=ZnKGSHGe0djFsmL5

From the 50 minute mark of the service, you can view our school captains represent Ballan PS and lay a wreath to honour the service and sacrifice of Australians and their allies.

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge (PRC) is coming to a close today (Friday 4th September). Congratulations to our students in the school who opted in to the challenge and have successfully met and/or exceeded the targets.

Our students will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers in early Term 4.

Book Week Dress Up Day & Parade

As Mr Carlyle mentioned in his section, what a week it has been with the celebration of Book Week at Ballan PS! Our Grandparents and Special Friends morning and dress up day last Thursday was a huge success and there was a great buzz around the school. We hope everyone who attended had a lovely time visiting the classrooms, participating in the activities and enjoyed the morning tea.

There was lots of excitement in all classrooms with seeing our students and staff costumes and hear about the characters they have come as. Thank you to our families for the work you have done putting together such fabulous book week costumes. Everyone looked amazing! Our Book Week parade topped off a great day of celebrations.

Book Club

Scholastic Book Club is a service offered to students, parents, and teachers. Brochures advertising a variety of books and computer software are sent home with each student, approximately twice a term.

Purchase of the books is not compulsory and there is no obligation. If you do wish to purchase any goods, simply log into the Book Club site www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP and follow the prompts. All Book Club orders must be ordered and paid for via LOOP. Do not send order forms and cash to school. When the order arrives at school, books are sent home with students.

The School earns “Bonus Points” for each order which can be used to purchase new resources for classroom libraries.

Click here for the Scholastic Book Club Parent Log in page or to register for new users.

You can have a look at the online catalogue here: https://scholastic.com.au/book-club/book-club-parents/issue-preview/
