Foundation

Hi Families, 

Every week in Foundation with these beautiful children is wonderful and this week was no different, except it was even better with some spring sunshine! In Maths, we've been learning about sharing into equal groups to scaffold early division concepts. In the photos below, the children were working out how many groups 8 could be shared into equally. Afterwards, as an extension the children worked with bigger numbers.  Finding costumes hidden in the Foundation room was a major hit and dressing up for our Discovery stations has become a new crowd favourite. To quote Raven: "I'm Snow White but as a vet!" We also had an enormous amount of fun (and mess) painting our bird boxes as part of our Inquiry project to look after birds around us. One more week to go! A reminder that swimming starts on Tuesday the 15th to Friday the 18th. 

Year 1

Hi Families,

Another lovely week of spring shine in our classroom! 🌱🌸 It is hard to believe we are already approaching the end of Term 3.

Our little vegetable garden has certainly been teaching us an important lesson this term good things take time! We had hoped our vegetables might have grown a little more by now, but as we have discovered, nature works at its own pace. 🌿🥕 As a class, we have decided to give our vegetables a little longer to grow before we enjoy our harvest. This means our From Paddock to Plate learning will continue into the beginning of next term, which will give us even more opportunities to watch, care for and learn from our garden.

I have included some photos below so you can see how our vegetables are growing. The children have loved watching their progress and learning that caring for living things requires patience, kindness and time. 💚

As I am sure you are aware, swimming begins next Tuesday! 🏊‍♀️ It will certainly be a busy day, but the children are very excited and I know they are going to have lots of fun once they are in the water.  I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing weekend. Enjoy the sunshine, and I look forward to seeing everyone next week!

Year 2

Hello Families,

It's so hard to think, we're almost at the end of Term.3! We enjoyed another busy but fun filled week. Learning;  We finished our class book ‘’My Mum is a Bird’’ and now onto creative stories about ‘The Little Red Hen’’. Through our Inquiry unit and understanding of God’s Creation we are learning how to look after both animals and plants alike. Our garden is looking fabulous with all the vegetables, plants, flowers growing together. Congratulations; Coleen and Steve, our award recipients. We had our treats Ms.Liz won from the raffle and thought of Sebastian on his mini holiday  . Reminders; Please take the time to prepare your child for his/her swimming program next Tuesday-Friday, how exciting! Weekly Message; When I saw how much enjoyment the class got out of repotting seedlings themeselves, I think of these words  “Tell me and I forget, Teach me and I may remember, Involve me and I will Learn”. Have lovely weekend ahead.

Year 3/4 AL

Hi families, 

This week students in 3/4 AL proudly presented to Prem and the Foundation students their innovation on the short listed Book Week text Dawn, which they titled Recess.  Please swipe through to read their beautifully illustrated and presented story book, highlighting how the school yard comes alive as the recess bell rings. The text copies the language features of Dawn, including its use of minimalist text, rich vocabulary and sensory descriptors. It now lives in the Sacred Heart Library for all to enjoy.

As we approach the final week of term, students have been busy finalising their Inquiry projects; sharing through slides the lifecycle/metamorphisis stages and explaining what and how we can help or hinder their selected insects lifecycle. They have also been busy creating models to represent their research findings, using a mixture of natural and classroom materials. 

We look forward to finishing off the term sharing our call to action to help the catterpillars and bees in our ecosystem.

Year 3/4T

Hi Families,

Our Year 3/4 students have been getting creative with flexible thinking! 🚗🌈 Through our Mind Headquarters learning, we explored how we can ‘change direction’ when things don’t go to plan. Students designed their own colourful steering wheels, filling them with strategies to help them pause, feel calm and choose what to do next. From deep breaths and drawing to moving our bodies or talking to someone we trust, everyone had ideas to share!

Mind Headquarters is building on our RRRR (Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships) learning about managing emotions, solving problems and seeking help. These skills support students to try a different approach when things feel tricky, consider someone else’s perspective in a friendship and feel more confident navigating everyday challenges. Sometimes a pause and a new direction can make a big difference! 💛 

With the final week of term approaching, our Inquiry projects are coming together! 🐛🦋 Students have been creating slide presentations to explain their chosen insect’s life cycle, the changes it undergoes through metamorphosis and how our actions can help or harm it at different stages. They have also been bringing their research to life through models made from natural and classroom materials. Take a look at the photos below to see their learning and creativity in action!

Swimming begins next Tuesday! 🏊‍♀️ Please make sure your child comes to school with their bathers underneath their school uniform and brings a separate swimming bag containing:

• A towel
• Underwear to change into afterwards
• A plastic bag for wet clothes
• A swimming cap and goggles
• Thongs to wear to the pool

Year 5/6J and Year 5/6M

The senior students in 5/6J and 5/6M ran the Assembly last week and did a great job at communicating what has been happening in both classes with their learning and outside of the classroom as well. With so much going on, no wonder the kids are ready for a break!

And another big shout out to two of our students, Kaone and Viraj, who performed brilliantly at the Inter School Athletics Carnival, with Kaone finishing 2nd in the 200 metres and Viraj finishing 4th in the discus. Congratulations boys, you did us proud!
