Year 5/6 Sports Gala Day

Hear from some of our Year 6 students as they reflect on the amazing sportsmanship and effort showed at our Interschool Sports Gala Day!

Netball

Hello everyone! My name is Emma, and I am the House Captain for Heath and captain of the girls’ netball team. Today I’m going to tell you about how Gala Day went for the netball team. But first, what is gala day? Gala day is a whole day when schools compete against each other in different sports! This term’s sports were netball, softball, rounders and soccer. Now let’s get into how the day went! We made it to Jells Park in the morning ready as ever excited to have fun! Sadly, we lost 3 games but won 1. Overall, the day was packed with energy and fun, Although, we didn’t win every game we still played our best. Well done to the whole team and every student who participated and went to gala day!!

Soccer

Hello, my name is Charles. I am the Banksia House Captain and I will be telling you what we did last Friday, June 20Th. All the Year 6s playing soccer arrived at Lum Park ready and determined to win. It was Gala Day, and we were ready to explore different challenges and obstacles! But what is Gala Day? Gala day is essentially a day where the Year 5/6s play in Soccer, Rounders, Softball, or Netball team and go to a certain location to play the sport against different schools to see who can win the highly sought after flags. These flags come back to the winning school and are placed in the hallways to be a memory of the school’s great legacy. The soccer team competed against 4 schools, where we won against 2 schools and unfortunately lost against 2 schools. But at the end of the day we all had lot of fun!

Softball

It was a nice, sunny day as the Year 5/6 Softball Team climbed out of the bus and ventured into Jells Park on Friday the 20th of June 2025. We were going to be playing against four different schools: Holy Family, Knox, Mount Waverley Heights and Mount Waverley North Primary School. There was great batting and fielding from Ansh, Senuth, and James, and a lot of good sportsmanship from the whole team. We won the first three matches and tied the last, 13 - 13. In the end, we had lots of fun and enjoyed playing our sport against other schools. Keep it up, Highvale!

Rounders

We went to Jells Park on 20th of June. Our sport was Rounders, and we played four games when we were there. Our first game was against Holy Family. There was excellent batting by Elkan G and amazing fielding by Zach C. Sadly, we lost by 3-11. Our second game was against Knox. There was some great fielding by Warren C, luckily, we won. Our third Game was against Mount Waverly Heights. There was some awesome sportsmanship from Grace L. We won 9-6! Our last game was against Mount Waverley North. There was some great batting by Jayson Y, but sadly, we lost. In the end, we all had fun!
