EXCITING NEWS – A BOOM GATE IS COMING!

Gallery Image

We are very excited to share the news that the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and Parks Victoria are working together to supply and install a boom gate on Albert Road Drive South. The boom gate will provide:

  • access control, limiting vehicle movement during peak school times
  • flexibility to open and close at agreed times to meet the interests of the school and other

    relevant stakeholders

  • continued unrestricted 24/7 access for emergency vehicles
  • sustained public parking capacity during weekends and non-school hours

Site surveying and design development is underway, and contractor procurement is expected to follow in June 2026. Works to install the boom gate are currently scheduled for the term 2 school holidays, between 27 June and 12 July 2026, so as to minimise disruption to the school.

Since the school’s opening in 2019, we have actively pursued enhanced safety and traffic‑control measures, including the installation of a boom gate. We extend our sincere appreciation to the school council president, Katrina Walker, councillors Chris Arnott and Louise Pedersen, and community member, Mel Jones for their steadfast advocacy.

We also express our sincere gratitude to Member for Albert Park, Nina Taylor, and the Regional Director, South Eastern Victoria Region, Ian Burrage, whose support and responsiveness to community concerns have been instrumental in delivering this outcome.

This milestone marks an important step toward ensuring a safer environment for all members of our school community.

MOTHERS AND VIP BREAKFAST AND LUNCH

We were very fortunate to enjoy a rain‑free morning for our breakfast last Friday. It was wonderful to see so many mums and special people joining us in celebration. A heartfelt thank‑you to our amazing Dads for organising the event, gathering donations, and preparing and serving the food. I hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful Mothers’ Day on Sunday.

Thank you, too, to Clea Wallage for organising a special Mothers’ Day lunch whilst also raising some funds for our school.

EDUCATION SUPPORT (ES)

Last Thursday we celebrated our hard working ES staff with a morning tea. It was remiss of me in the last newsletter not to acknowledge our newest ES member, Jess Smedley. Jess is working with us part time in the library. She has brought a lot of knowledge and passion and some new initiatives such as student book reviews.

WALKATHON

A huge thank you to all the families who have already sent in their Walkathon donations via QKR. Your generosity has helped us reach $10,628 so far. As our biggest fundraiser of the year, and with no school fete or similar event, this support plays a vital role in helping us improve our playground spaces.

Pending the finalisation of the proposed licensing agreement, we plan to use these fundraising dollars to install synthetic turf on the kick‑off area. This will give our students a cleaner, more enjoyable space to play on and save families from the daily task of scrubbing mud and dirt from uniforms. Our goal is to surpass last year’s incredible total of $20,000, and with your continued support, we’re confident we can achieve it.
