Year 10 Work Experience

Last week, the Vocational Pathways Group (VPG) came to the College to introduce our Year 10 students to the 2024 work experience program. The visit was met with great interest and enthusiasm, and I know many boys have been having conversations with their parents and carers about it. There are a number of key stages and dates along the work experience timeline for the Year 10s which are listed below. I strongly encourage parents and carers to attend the Parent Information Evening if there are any questions.

 

Key Dates & Events

 

Year 10 Work Experience Parent Information Evening

  • Monday 5 February 5:30 to 6:30pm in Lennon Hall.

Work Experience Interviews 

  • Work experience interviews will be conducted at the College in Week 4 on February 15 and 16 during school time.
  • Your son will need to bring his VPG Work Experience Application form and resume to this interview. Students will be informed of their interview time in Week 3.
  • A resume builder has been posted to the Year 10 team for students to access if they don't have a completed or up-to-date resume.
  • Students are to treat the interview like a real job interview.

White Card Training – Thursday 7 and Friday 8 March

  • Any boys requesting a placement in the construction industry or another industry that may take them onto a construction site (e.g. architecture) will need to complete White Card training. This will be conducted at MiHaven Training Centre, Palm Ave, near the College. I will soon contact students wishing to undertake White Card training and a communication will be sent out to parents or carers afterwards.
  • White Card training costs about $60.

Placement Delivery/Notification

  • The Year 10 boys will be notified by VPG of their work experience placement on Monday 29 April.
  • They will need to contact their placement that week (29 April to 3 May) to arrange to meet them to confirm details and requirements of their work experience placement.

Work Experience Placement

  • May 13 to 17 (Term 2, Week 5)
