2026 Cross Country Skiing Program
For the final day of the program, students headed up Mount McKay Road, travelling almost to the intersection with Wombats Ramble before finding a protected clearing with deep snow. Here, the group constructed two snow shelters and enjoyed lunch out of the weather before continuing the journey down Atkinson’s Trail and returning via the Bogong High Plains Road, completing a 5.5 km loop.
Conditions were challenging but memorable, with a mix of sleet and snow throughout the day. Students also had the chance to ski through some heavy powder, which made the skiing tough going at times but provided plenty of soft landings!
A big thank you to Belinda for volunteering her time and sharing her knowledge of the local trails and cross-country routes, to Ms Roy for supporting and attending the program, and most importantly, to the students for their enthusiasm and for making the program possible.
Next week is Science Week!
Nurturing knowledge for all
Aligned with the 2026 United Nations International Year of the Woman Farmer, this year’s theme, Seeds of Science, explores the secret world of seeds and how they grow.
Other things grow from a seed too, such as pearls, crystals, snowflakes and even planets. We can even think about ideas and knowledge as seeds that start small, and grow from there. This is evident in agriculture and other industries right across Australia.
Could we grow plants on the Moon?
Thanks to a team of scientists at the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in
Plants for Space, the answer is – maybe!
The team is part of the Lunar Effects on Agricultural Flora (LEAF) initiative, which is
part of NASA’s Artemis III mission. Scheduled for launch in September 2027, LEAF aims to
see astronauts germinate seeds and return lunar-grown plants to Earth for the first
time.
Visual Communication Design
Students in Unit 2 Visual Communication have been exploring Environmental Design. They have been designing a viewing platform to suit the Tawonga Gap lookout area. To visualise their concepts and be able to draw their designs, they created mini models of their viewing platforms. Some excellent geometric and organic shaped platforms were designed and constructed.
Spotlight on PE
Year 8 students have been working on their gymnastics skills in PE recently. To help build these skills, students have been breaking the components down and training their balance, core and body awareness through drills and activities.
While the Year 9 students have continued to learn a new dance each week, as well as explore a range of Rhythmic Gymnastics disciplines including the Ribbon.
Camps and Events
Take a look at the Event Reminders page for more information!
We hope all Year 8s and Year 10s will join in on their respective camps this year - an amazing opportunity for each student.
