Press Gang

Press Gang is our school’s very own news team! Each term, we keep an eye on what’s happening around the school, from exciting events and fun projects to important updates from our school community. Our goal is to find stories that matter to students, teachers, and families, and share them in a way that everyone will enjoy.

Once we’ve got our ideas, we work together to plan out the articles. We chat with students, teachers and other school community members, asking questions and gathering opinions through interviews and surveys. By listening to all the voices in our school, we make sure our articles are interesting, informative and represent everyone. It’s a great way to celebrate what makes our school special!

This year so far, we have had the exciting opportunity to interview some amazing children’s authors and illustrators over Zoom, including Cassie Polimeni, Ben Knight, and Gabrielle Wang. We asked them about how they became authors or illustrators, what inspires them to write and create, and how they choose their audience. Hearing their stories and advice was really inspiring, it gave us lots of ideas and made us think about the power of storytelling.

We’re super lucky to have journalist Cat Rodie with, showing us how to write engaging stories and bring our ideas to life. Our new facilitator, Valerie, also helps us stay creative and organised. At the end of each term, we publish “Our Voice”, the school newsletter packed with stories written by Press Gang reporters. We can’t wait for you to read our next issue, coming out at the end of the term and see all the amazing things happening at our school!
