Welcome Highvale Primary School Community to the first Captains Corner Newsletter piece. Every fortnight the four School Captains will contribute to the newsletter. We will write about things we are doing within the school, articles that will interest, inform and entertain you.

This week we would like you to get to know us a little bit better, so let us introduce ourselves:

Hello, I am Minul and I am 11 years old.

I moved to Australia from Germany with my family eight months ago. This will help you get to know me as more than just your School Captain!

I live with my parents and my two brothers Senal and Kenul and one attends this school can you guess who?? We are from Sri Lanka and I am proud of my Sri Lankan culture.

What I like about school:

Honestly, I like the fact that this school teaches school values and I feel more comfortable here.

My interests outside of school:

I enjoy playing cricket and video games. I also enjoy sketching and painting.

My favourite holiday:

My favourite holidays are the winter holidays because of Christmas.

An interesting fact about me:

I speak German fluently because I lived 9 years in Germany.. (Guten Tag)

Things I like:

I enjoy reading the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series. My favourite animal is a wolf. My favourite holiday destination is Croatia. I like sushi and cheesecake.

What I would love to do as a career:

My ambition is to be a private lawyer.

Hello. My name is Keitarou and I am one of the new school captains for 2026. My family has six members including my dog named Bao Bao who is about to turn 1. He is brown with white fur on one of his paws and white fur in the middle of his head. I also have two older brothers who go to Highvale Secondary College. My oldest brother is in Year 11 and is competing in the VEX World Championships! My second-oldest brother is in Year 9, plays the piano smoothly and loves watching anime.

I enjoy many things at school but I like how the community works together to make Highvale such a great place to be. I get to see my friends every day. We work together in class and get to play during lunch. My favourite subject is Maths.

My interest outside of school is playing tennis. I get to run a lot and feel energetic and like practising my serves and ground strokes. I also take part in the WDTA tennis competition with my team and play in grade C4. Tennis also teaches me good sportsmanship and teamwork. I also enjoy playing golf because I get to hit the ball see it slicing through the air. It helps me stay calm and is fun. It takes a lot of practice to improve my swing. I love swimming at the pool with my friends. I also love playing piano because music makes me happy.

One of my favourite holidays is when I went with my family to Mount Gambier in South Australia. We got to swim at Little Blue Lake which used to be a sinkhole and not far away was a mountain called Mount Schank that used to be an active volcano. We got to do a lot of nature walks and saw a lot of beautiful scenery.

An interesting fact about me is that I was born on Halloween day (31st of October), which makes my birthday extra fun and spooky. I also learned how to play golf at four years old and already know 1/3 of the periodic-table.

My favourite book series is about dragons and is called Wings of Fire. I like how the story is about teamwork, betrayal and has many plots and twists. My favourite food is spicy ramen because it has lots of flavour and spice that makes it taste so delicious. What makes it taste even finer is adding an egg with the ramen. I also have a favourite animal which is a monkey. They look and act cool are pretty smart and playful.

When I grow up I want to be a Lawyer or Doctor. I want to become a doctor as I am passionate about helping others and saving lives. I also want to be a lawyer because I know I can fight for many cases and find a way to come back from a losing case. I enjoy helping others and standing up for what is right.

Hello! My name is Maya and I’m one of the 2026 School Captains. I’m so excited for the opportunities and responsibilities that come up with this role.

A little bit about me, I have an older brother, Liam. My parents are from India, but I was born in Australia. My favourite holiday is Christmas because I enjoy spending time with my family and listening to Christmas carols. What I love most about Highvale is the people. I enjoy seeing my friends each day, saying hello to teachers, and being part of such a friendly and welcoming community. Outside of school, I play netball and cricket, and I started learning the saxophone last year, which I really enjoy. I also love reading fantasy, my favourite series is Keeper of the Lost Cities, which I highly recommend. My favourite food is Oreo Ice cream (does it really count as a food?).

I can’t wait for a fantastic year ahead!

Hi! My name is Aradhya. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I live with my mum, dad and 16 year old sister. My family is from India but I was born in Australia. My favourite thing about HPS is art and having the opportunity of speaking at assembly. I look forward to improving my confidence in speaking in front of a large audience. Since my family is from India there are lots of festivals. My favourite festival is definitely Holi, a festival where you wear white and throw coloured chalk powder and water at each other. When I grow up, I want to be a teacher because they educate and improve people’s learning.
