Grade 2 news
We have had a fantastic start to the year with lots of setting up of routines and learning fun. Our displays in our classrooms are beautiful, and we seem to have a lot of brilliant artists in grade 2.
We are doing our first class novel, The Wild Robot, and students have been exploring themes, characters and setting. It has been exciting to see the students discuss the themes using evidence from the text to back up their answers. We also have had some fun drawing the Roz, the robot, in her different forms.
In writing we have focused on parts of speech, particularly adjectives to enhance our ‘show, don’t tell’ work with lots of descriptive writing. The kids have been spectacular, engaged and expressive!
Our grade 2s learnt how to read calendars in maths and now we are working with numbers in the thousands! We have enjoyed the hands-on tasks and the students are impressing the teachers with their place value knowledge.
In Passions we are researching what is needed to make a good game. Our research has been very hands on with lots of game play to see what we think makes the best game. It is all culminating in the kids designing their own games. We can’t wait to see what they create by the end of term 1!
