From the Directors of Boarding

It was wonderful once again to meet with the Boarding Parent Committee on Friday 29 May before the long weekend. This forum continues to be incredibly valuable, providing a clear and effective conduit between families, their Year Group Representatives, and the school. It allows us to work productively and proactively to refine and enhance the boarding experience we offer here at Great Southern Grammar. We would like to acknowledge all committee members and sincerely thank you for your continued support, engagement, and contribution.
Since our last Boarding Buzz, it has been a particularly busy and enjoyable time in boarding as we celebrated National Boarding Week here at Great Southern Grammar. This is always a fantastic week where we place our boarders front of mind across both boarding and the day school. It provides a wonderful opportunity to spend time getting to know our students more deeply, where they are from, as well as gaining greater insight into the challenges and triumphs that come with the boarding experience.
The week was largely led by our two Boarding Captains, Zane Cairns and Matilda Norrish, who have continued to do an outstanding job in their roles this year. In Tilly’s absence, Zane took the reins and did a fantastic job hosting the assembly, organising the football match on Wednesday, and maintaining a strong presence in and around the houses throughout the week to help celebrate National Boarding Week.
A special mention must go to everyone who contributed photos and videos for the week’s slideshow. A sincere thank you also to Madison Beeck for the time and effort she dedicated to putting this together. Additionally, we acknowledge Tilly Norrish for her work on the poster and the interview video, both valuable contributions that helped make the week such a success.
At the recent Boarding Parent Committee meeting, Principal Mr Mat Irving announced with great excitement that Anchorage House will reopen in 2027 due to strong boarding numbers. Over the coming months, we will be spending time exploring what this will look like in practice and how things will unfold as we prepare for its reopening.
Thank you all again for your ongoing support this far in 2026. Enjoy the upcoming holidays with your family, and here's to an exciting second half of the year. See you next term!
