German Students Experience German Cinema at the German Film Festival

Students from Years 9, 10 and 11 recently attended the German Film Festival, enjoying a day of authentic German-language cinema while gaining valuable insights into German culture and history.
The Year 11 German students watched Berlin Hero (Der Held vom Bahnhof Friedrichstraße), a film about a man who unexpectedly becomes a national celebrity when he is linked to a dramatic escape story from East Germany during the Cold War.
Year 9 students watched The Secret Floor (Das geheime Stockwerk), an adventure film in which a young boy discovers a magical elevator that transports him back to 1938, where he must help solve a mystery while navigating a challenging period in history.
The Year 10 students watched THE HOLY GRILL, a film about a tennis club debating whether or not to buy a separate barbecue for halal food. Topical and entertaining.
The excursion provided students with a wonderful opportunity to hear authentic German, experience different styles of storytelling and connect their classroom learning with real-world culture. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and returned with plenty to discuss in their German classes.
A sincere thank you to Frau Staeb, Frau Debney, Herr Tiernan, Frau Henry and Frau Phillips for organising and supporting the excursion. Their efforts made the day both enjoyable and educational for all students involved.
We look forward to future opportunities to engage with German language and culture through experiences such as the German Film Festival.
