Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,

I would like to congratulate our newly appointed Primary Years Captains and Vice Captains. Chloe, Lucas, Onali and Georgia. We know that they will do an amazing job in their new role for 2026 to represent the college and their peers. I thank our outgoing Captains Ben, Lily, Zail and Will for their work this year in leading the Primary Years and being there for the students as positive role models.

Prep to Year 3 Athletic Carnival

Thanks to our Phys Ed Team Mr Silipo and Mr Mai for coordinating a fun and active event for the students last week. It was wonderful to see everyone's House spirit shining throughout the morning.

Year 1 Disco

Our Year 1 students came to our College last Wednesday in their disco outfits and enjoyed a dancing event in our Performing Arts Centre. There were lots of smiles and sparkles across the day and I would like to thank all our staff for running such a fun Disco.

Lost Property

As the days are getting warmer, we are finding that many students are leaving jumpers or jackets either in the playground or within classrooms. Please remember to label all items and check your child's belongings often. If you are missing any items, lost property is located outside of Learning Neighbourhood 1.

College Building Works

Work has commenced on the court area behind the gymnasium. This will be a sheltered court area once finished and a great addition to our facilities. In the meantime, the road area will be busy with work vehicles and parking may be a challenge on Cookes Road. Please be reminded of road safety and remind students to only use school crossings when crossing the roads in the morning and afternoon.

Social Media Restrictions

From 10th December 2025, many social media platforms won’t be allowed to let Australians under 16 create or have an account. Facebook, Instagram, Kick, Reddit, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, Twitch, X and YouTube will be required to take reasonable steps to prevent Australians under 16 from having accounts on their platforms.  To find useful resources to support your child/ren through this change, please refer to the website https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents

We remain committed to educating students here at the College about online safety and appropriate device use. To support us here at the College, please refrain from having students attend the College with mobile phones where possible. Any calls that need to be made can be made from our Primary Years office space using the main College phone line. Mobile phones can prove a distraction when students have access to these before or after school hours in the school grounds with their peers and when they are not actively supervised by a parent/carer.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Thanks to Ms Taylah Lochland who has led Goodes House to recognise this day on Wednesday 3rd December . This day aims to promote community awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with a disability. In the Primary Years, there will be lunchtime activities on the day in the Learning Neighbourhood.

Year 4-6 Swimming Carnival

Students from Years 4-6 will have their annual swimming carnival on Wednesday 17th December. This is a fun event that also celebrates the end of the year and students are able to participate in many fun pool and land activities across the day. Students will travel by bus to the event and the event takes place in the outdoor pool section.

Free public transport for people aged under 18

From 1 January 2026, people aged under 18 can travel free on all Victorian public transport services. This includes trams, trains, buses and coach services.

To access free travel, they must use a new youth myki card and tap the card on and off each time they travel. For areas that do not use myki cards, they must show their myki card to travel free.
