Book Week competition prize winners (from Weeks 7 & 8) are as follows:

The Regular Readers Raffle prize draw for Term 3 was held this week. Bevan Washington (7A) won 1st prize ($9 caf vouchers), Hazel Kwong (7A) won 2nd prize ($6 caf vouchers), and Hannah Tan (11S) won 3rd prize ($3 caf voucher).
The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge closed on Friday 4th September. A total of 58 students successfully completed the Challenge and will receive a free pizza lunch and go into a prize draw to win one of four $25 Dymocks gift cards.

Year 8 Readers’ Cup is now underway. Most classes from Year 8 have a team of 2-4 students and will read the following books: Bite risk by S.J. Wills, The road to winter by Mark Smith, and Skeleton Creek by Patrick Carman. The competition will take place early in Term 4. The teams are as follows:

This season’s draft

This is a refreshing story about six diverse teenagers hoping to be picked up by a club in the upcoming AFL Draft. Told in verse from each character’s point-of-view, This season’s draft follows all six over the course of a year as they prepare for the biggest moment of their lives.
Elias has natural talent and knows what he wants, but sometimes he worries that his dad takes footy more seriously than he does! Zac and Fletcher are best friends – inseparable – and expect to be picked in the top 5. What will they do if they get picked up by rival clubs? Mason has had a tougher road than most but what he lacks in natural talent, he makes up for in courage and hard work. He is determined to make it as a professional footballer and fulfil his late dad’s dream. Finally, there are Dane and Beth; Dane is a gifted footballer, ready to take the next step in his career, while Beth is beginning to realise that she needs to step out on her own and follow her own dreams, not just Dane’s. Does this mean she’ll have to leave Dane behind?
This season’s draft is a very unique story, easy and quick to read, and each character’s voice is very distinctive. I think readers who enjoy sports stories will appreciate the messages in this story – that sport is about more than what happens on the field – and readers who like to read real life stories may also enjoy this.
