Social Beans

Emily Gosbell - Head of Career Pathways/Business Teacher

Social Beans is a new Year 10 semester-based subject, in which students engage in practical and theoretical lessons as we run a social enterprise Coffee Cart business at the Tindals Road campus.

We have partnered with Now and Not Yet, a social enterprise café in Warrandyte, with Derek and Jaxon Bradshaw providing exceptional barista training and intel on social enterprises. Our partnership also extends to us grinding, pouring and serving Social Brew coffee from Now and Not Yet.

As a social enterprise, our business will donate all profits to a cause of the students' choice. This semester our class has decided to donate profits to World Vision Water Projects and our mission statement for the business is "We fill your cup, so you can fill theirs".

This subject provides an excellent opportunity to fundraise as a school, while also helping students to develop barista skills for future jobs. So far, we have had an excellent start to the year, with many successful pop-ups for both teachers and students.

We will have future opportunities for Primary and Secondary students to purchase a drink from our business. We look forward to seeing this subject grow and develop as the year goes on.

CSEN Basketball Championships

Emily Townend - Head of Health & PE

Chris Turner - Secondary Sport Coordinator

On Thursday 2 May a bus load of DCC basketballers travelled to Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre (MSAC) in Albert Park to compete. The competition saw Christian schools across Victoria come together for a fun-filled day of competitive basketball. Our teams had spent the last few weeks training before school and at lunchtimes to prepare for the competition.

Throughout the day, our students displayed exceptional sportsmanship, competed to the best of their abilities, and encouraged their fellow DCC teams.

A highlight from the day was the Year 9-10 Girls Bronze Medal match. In the final match of the day the girls faced tough opposition, but scored the match winning points with four seconds left on the clock!

We are so proud of our students and the way they conducted themselves on the day. A big thank you to all coaches, staff and parents who were involved in the event, we look forward to returning next year!

VSA Championships - Swimming

Chris Turner - Secondary Sport Coordinator

After their amazing performances at the EISM Swimming Carnival in Term 1, Thomas Greenwood and Charrise Chan represented DCC and the EISM at the Victorian Schools Association Championships swimming event on Monday 6 May.

The Championships featured teams representing each of the school sporting competitions across Victoria, so the standard of swimming on display was extremely high. Thomas finished third in each of his three events, whilst Charisse finished third in the 4x50m breaststroke relay.

Congratulations to these two for their amazing results!
