Meet our Sport Leaders for 2026

Hi my name is Georgia, and I am so excited to be the sports captain in 2026!! My favourite sport to play is netball which I do most nights per week and I barrack for the mighty Hawks! This year I’m looking forward to dodgeball every Friday, twilight sports, and Durkin winning the title!!

Hello my name is Patrick and i’m very happy to be a sports leader in 2026. The sports I like to play are Soccer, Basketball and Tennis. I love playing sports and I like to watch the footy and I barrack for Calton. I also like playing class games like dodgeball and fun things we get to do as a year six.  And I look forward to hosting twilight sports and hope Durkin wins!

We will introduce our House Leaders in our next newsletter.

Eastern Regional Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to all of the students that competed at the Division Swimming Carnival last week.  The students did a great job competing against the next level of competitiors.  Congratulations to Lachlan and Emma Lim and Petra Tirtawidjaja who have progressed to the Eastern Regional Carnival, scheduled for Tuesday 31st of March.

House Cross Country - Friday 27th March

Our House Cross Country is scheduled for this Friday 27th March.  Hopefully we continue to get some of the lovely Autumn weather we have experienced for this fun afternoon.

Families are welcomed and encouraged to come along. Below are approximate details for the event.  The schedule of events will remain the same, possibly timing may run ahead or behind.

Students are encouraged to wear their sports uniform along with their house colour t shirt.

The prep and year one students will complete a 500m course around the school as will the year 2 students, but it will be slightly longer.  The year 3-6 students will complete a 1km loop in and around the school, with the year 3&4 students completing 2km and the year 5&6 students 3km.

This afternoon is also used as a trials for any students wanting to go through to the District Cross Country event on Monday 18th May.  The top 10 girls/boys in the 9/10, 11 and 12/13 age groups often qualify to go through.  Students have to be turning this age by the 31st December of this year to qualify (Thus why the above timetable refers to age rather than year 5 & 6 etc).  If students qualify for a younger age group but are in year 5 or 6 for instance, they will be trialled with their age group and not their year level.

We are looking forward to a fun afternoon.

Year 4 Gala Day

Our Year 4 Gala Day was held on Friday.  Students participated in Ultimate Frisbee, Cricket and Hot Shots Tennis.  The students had a fabulous day, and represented St James with pride.

Year 5&6 Gala Day

Our next Gala day is scheduled for the year 5 & 6 students on Tuesday 31st of March.  The students will participate in Ultimate Frisbee, Volleystars or Volleyball, Hot Shots Tennis and Cricket.  The students have had the opportunity to learn and revise these sports in term 1 and 4 last year.

If you are free to assist on the day, we always welcome parent/carer help to assist with coaching, scoring on the day.  Families are welcome to go and watch.

Once fixtures have been completed, I will pop them up on the permission form.

Team Vic Key Dates

At this time of year some parents will ask me about how their child can apply for a spot in the SSV State Team for various sports.  Here you will find the Team Trial Readiness Guide that will assist you as a parent on whether you believe your child would be ready to trial for one of the sports available. Here  is the information for each sport and here are the key dates for when registrations will open/close for each of the sports.

Please ensure you have a read of the information sheet that should answer all of your questions.  Parents are able to register your child in a sport that they feel their child excels in without consultation with the school.  Please be advised it is a highly competitive process. If there are more than 3 students that apply for a sport, SSV will advise us at St James as we are only able to endorse 3 students for one sport.  The only other time SJV needed to be involved is if your child makes the Vic Team, the principal will be asked to endorse the student before they can register for the team.  I hope this answers some of the questions you may have.

As always, please get in touch if required.

Stay safe, keep active
