Grade 1 Report

What a wonderful term it has been in Grade 1!
We have been exploring the work of several authors and illustrators, making predictions about stories and getting very crafty along the way. Books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler have been particularly popular in our classrooms.
We have enjoyed reading Room on the Broom, Stick Man, The Gruffalo, The Snail and the Whale, and Zog. The Grade 1 children showed wonderful creativity as they brought these stories to life. Paper plates were transformed into Gruffalo faces, real “stick men” ran around the Junior School, witches were heard cackling through the halls, and whales could be spotted swimming off the coast of the Junior School!
We also read the beautiful book The Concrete Garden by Bob Graham. Inspired by the story, Grade 1 visited the Junior School basketball court and created their own “Concrete Garden” using colourful chalk.
It has been wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm for stories grow as they explore their creativity, imagination and love of reading together.
