Our Learning This Week:

In 3/4 we have started a new topic on fractions in Maths this week.

We have been exploring common fractions using visual representations. There has been many open-ended opportunities to explore different ways to represent and identify fractions. These included using counters to represent collections and drawing shapes on whiteboards and in our books to represent fractions of a whole.

We have been learning about identifying equal parts of a whole and representing them in different ways. We have also been learning how to identify and compare equivalent fractions.

For one of our tasks this week, we created a Commonwealth Games flag and represented the fractions in different ways. Students were given a flag and had to shade a fraction of their choosing. They had to accurately record the fraction(s) next to their flag.

Some students were able to demonstrate their understanding of equivalent fractions through their flag design.
