The Rosary
The rosary is a group of prayers that we pray to give praise to God through Mary. We remember stories about Jesus’ life as well as stories of Mary’s life.
The Rosary is a type of meditation. We take time to be like Mary and think about the stories of Jesus and their meaning. We can reflect on them in our heart.
The main prayers we say during the rosary are the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be.
A Decade of the Rosary
During the month of October we are praying a decade of the rosary each day.
These prayers are repeated after we have named each story from scripture. We say one Our Father, ten Hail Marys and one Glory be.
Each decade invites us to reflect on a different story in Jesus’ and Mary’s life. These decades are grouped into sets of five.
These sets are called “the mysteries of the Rosary”.
There are four groups of Mysteries.
The Joyful Mysteries
The Sorrowful Mysteries
The Glorious Mysteries
The Mysteries of Light or Luminous Mysteries.
In each of the mysteries we recall particular stories about Jesus.
Our Year 3/4 students made their own decade rosary beads to help them pray.
What Pope Francis says about rosary?
“The Rosary is the most beautiful and the richest of all prayers to the Mediatrix of all grace; It is the prayer that touches most the heart of the Mother of God. Say it each day!”
