Celebrating St Kevin at SFS
Last Wednesday the school community gathered in the hall to celebrate the Feast day of St Kevin the saint that our parish is named after. We celebrated this year at St Francis de Sales with a school mass led by Fr Antony. Our children responded to the prayers with reverence and joined in the singing of all hymns with unity. The collective prayers said and sung made this Mass a very special time and inspirational for all present.
Who was St Kevin?
Kevin is one of the patron saints of the Diocese of Dublin, Ireland. Kevin lived the life of a hermit close to nature. His companions were the animals and birds around him. He lived as a hermit for seven years wearing only animal skins, sleeping on stones, and eating very sparingly. By 540 Kevin's fame as a teacher and holy man had spread far and wide. Many people came to seek his help and guidance. Glendalough grew into a renowned seminary of saints and scholars and was the parent of several other monasteries. Glendalough, with its seven churches, became one of the chief pilgrimage destinations in Ireland. Glendalough, or the Glen of Two Lakes, is one of the most important sites of monastic ruins in Ireland.
With an Irish husband, I have made more than ten trips to Ireland. Glendalough has a magnetic attraction for me. I am always propelled to visit this beautiful place each time I visit Ireland. The first time I was there, I was lucky enough to hear a tenor practicing by the lake. I was hooked. It is a beautiful place to walk around the lake or just sit and take in the breath taking scenery and be one with nature and with God.
Happy St Kevin's Day.

If you know someone thinking about their child starting at our wonderful school, they need to act fast. Book a tour, complete an application online and attend an interview to secure a place at St Francis de Sales for 2027. Delay and you will MISS out and will need to go on a waiting list. Spread the word so friends and families are aware that places are now limited for 2026.
