Alexander Commarmond‑Michel: Cultivating a Career where the Grass Is Always Greener
Alexander Commarmond‑Michel, a Year 12 VCE Vocational Major student, has a deep passion for the outdoors. To pursue this interest, Alex has chosen a career pathway in landscaping and horticulture.
Alex is currently completing his placement under the tutelage of Ron Matthews at the Sandown Greyhound Track. Ron describes Alex as an ideal employee, reliable, proactive, and consistently positive. He approaches every task with enthusiasm, never complains, and contributes to a workplace environment where others enjoy working alongside him.
During his time at Sandown, Alex has developed strong practical skills across all aspects of grounds maintenance. His experience includes mowing, brush cutting, pruning, and mulching, as well as operating a range of equipment such as ride‑on mowers, tractors, buggies, and push mowers. Alex takes great pride in his work, demonstrated by his transformation of an overgrown eyesore into a well‑maintained and visually appealing garden bed.
Mazenod College is deeply grateful to the Sandown Greyhound Track for the opportunities provided to Alex. We extend our sincere thanks to the entire team, particularly Racetrack Manager Ron Matthews, Track Coordinator Tony Parsons, and grounds staff Brendan, Tim, Nick, and Hugo for their guidance, care, and support.
If your organisation has the capacity to host or employ a VCE Vocational Major student, please contact our Vocational Education Leaders: Mr Leigh Harris (lharris@mazenod.vic.edu.au), Ms Athena Beshir (abeshir@mazenod.vic.edu.au).
Mazenod’s work placement days are scheduled as follows: Year 11 VCE VM (Units 1 & 2): Tuesdays, Year 12 VCE VM (Units 3 & 4): Thursdays
